Ideas for a darker TMNT series?

How would you create a new TMNT series after ROTTMNT that's dark for a mature audience?

In a way like Gargoyles and since the 2003 version of TMNT.

If a new series was made, the turtles would first be hidden in the shadows then later seasons they're exposed. They need to fight for mankind's approval of their existence and that they can coexist peacefully for all the good they've done all the years.

There's the IDW that they could use in some way. And the new female turtle Jennika coming soon they could use later on.

What is the target intended age range of the audience? That should shape any answer.

Take a look at Netflix's Daredevil series. Replicate that level of darkness, seriousness, grittiness, maturity, whatever you wanna call it. Live-action, CGI, animation; doesn't matter.

Heavily Mirage. Keep it simple, stupid.

You are limited by the T in teenage. Adult themes demand adult turtles.

This is not what I'd want to see, but in terms of attempting to "make everyone happy" (which is impossible, by the way... never try to do that) it would be kind of fun to see a TMNT anthology series like "Love, Death, and Robots." Like, one episode has TMNT that are super adult and bloody, even over the top, then the next episode has TMNT that are kiddy and light-hearted with letters on the belts and all with a pizza-thrower, and every subsequent episode bounces this way or that, etc.. With radically different styles of animation from episode to episode.

I like it. That's a great idea!

Not what I'd want in an overall series, but as a stand alone thing as a collection of one shot eps in different art styles and tones, in a similar vein as comics shift art styles between artists... could be interesting. (What 'Rise' is trying to do certainly could have had a better home among that.)

Shredder and Krang combined had the biggest arsenal of any villains in all of the cartoons.

Teenagers grow up. They don't have to be limited by the T. Besides, child soldiers are tragically a thing. Go dark enough with TMNT, that's exactly what they start out as.

But I'm all for simplifying the name to Ninja Turtles. It gets the job done.

As a Leatherhead fan, I find it hard to think of story ideas that don’t concern him. That in mind, one generic idea I like would be to focus less on the waging of battle with other characters and focus more instead on internal conflict about mutants trying to cope with their new life, something I imagine could easily apply to Raph as well as LH. Depending on how it’s written, it could get dark very easily, given the main characters are outcasts of society as it is.

I’m sure someone proposed that inner conflict idea before, but still, I enjoy it.

That's what Marvel would do with the Turtles.

Let the turtles kill some Humans by (accidentally?) kicking them from skyscraper rooftops during fights. It allows the turtles to kill people without any blood and gore.

What about Slash and Jennika?

Bebop and Rocksteady from the Purple Dragons?

Kraang the first Shredder and later Oroku Saki (reincarnated from Takeshi Tatsuo).

Just do it TMNT IDW style.

Perfectly balanced with light hearted content and disturbingly dark, gory content.

Exactly, a TV series based on the IDW comics would be cool.

Some can be altered as long as the series is dark and mature. But also like Disney's Gargoyles.
