Warriors Of The Forgotten Sewer Playmates Tie-in Comic

This should be a real treat. Here we have another mini-comic that was created to support a toyline of the same name. Each figure (of which there were 4- Leo, Donnie, Bebop, & Rocksteady. Splinter/Mikey/Warcat were prototyped but cancelled, Raph never even got a sculpt!) came with a copy of this 10 page story, neatly folded up & sealed in plastic. It's goofy but fun, & full of vibrant color. Like the Jim Lee TMNT feature, I wanted to put a new copy of this out in the wild.

Here's the thing- this puppy is no mere rip of the little booklet, my friends. It is taken from copies of the original art itself!
A turtley awesome acquaintance by the name of Chris Fawcett came into the possession of some rare Playmates materials & shared the scans, at which point I began editing them so as to re-release this obscure comic. The original works had many creases and wear marks that I painstakingly removed/painted over. It was also ran through a neural network that smooths out artifacting & grain. Obviously the quality isn't perfect, but I just did this for fun on the fly & was working with compressed scans of 24 year old material. Left the cover free of its logo so you can see the piece in all its glory for the first time.

You can read/download from the Imgur album I've uploaded it at if you prefer- https://imgur.com/a/tdAGT As this is a very obscure toy pack-in with other licensed characters, it is not for sale through any official means nor will it ever be reprinted, so it should be fine to share here.

Illustrated by Dan Berger, colored by Steve Lavigne, with scans provided by Chris Fawcett & clean-up/edits/reformatting by yours truly.

Man I loved these short comics, I wish Playmates actually did one for most of these. Cyber Turtles also had a short comic drawn by Michael Dooney and I think written by Dan Berger for CBS' "Action-Zone" free comic book day series, where the Turtles transform into the Cyber armor from the 1994 toyline that also appeared in the Archie series and that one Season 8 episode.

For short comics they're pretty fun and give some backstory to all these wacky TMNT variants they did. I'd love to see if they were able to come up with one for Farmer Mike and Hose 'Em Down Don.

Same here on both points. I have that comic as well, it's a fun read. Rare to see Dooney on full art duties, let alone something so different, such a cool little piece. Some of the Japanese TMNT figures came packed with mini-comics (or manga, if you wanna call it that) which featured their secondary mutations, Turtle Saint, etc. I've contributed some scans of that to the necessary parties but I don't think all of them have been gathered yet. When they are, you can expect an Opentrain release, I trust. Something to look forward to, one day. The art's really nice.

Probably the most "fun" of Playmates' comics. I've always found Berger's art very endearing. His turtles are so animated, & they have a certain warmth to them.

It's quite a sight, eh? The dragon looks a bit rough, but I didn't wanna meddle with it too much. Maybe I should have...

My pleasure, dudes. Trying contribute more to the fandom, like I used to. Wouldn't have been possible without Chris being so generous with his finds, though!

But where was Raphael ??? Was he the freakin tiger???

And Splinter's hat is so weird. Why would it be sewn together in different segments instead of just one piece at the sides?

While I've never been a fan of Dan Berger's take on the TMNT this is quite cool what you've uploaded. Thanks.

I don't mind it so much. Not every line of figures featured variants of all four turtles. Leonardo got left out of the production run of the Jim Lee/Savage Dragon tie-in, and Donatello probably got neglected the most in other promotional lines.

I like how they still had to collect all 4 turtle statues when there were only 3 Turtles. I know it was for promotional purposes and Raph got left out, but at least some throwaway line or something. Remember, OT Raph wasn't the type to go off on his own, he has no reason to not be hanging with the other when this happened.

Unfortunately, no. Perhaps one day Andrew can solicit its completion.

Very nice. Great work on the clean up.

For fans of this, you'll definitely want to check out my book (hopefully coming out in early 2020). I'll have a LOT more on this comic and the Forgotten Sewer line. Including some info about Raphael.... who is suspiciously missing here. Wasn't always so.

Just let me know where to pre-order that book, Chris!

I read that a sequel to this comic book is being made along with the release of some custom figures meant to complete this unfinished line.
Anyone knows who to contact to get a copy?
