TheWrap: Is Baron Draxum totally new to the “TMNT” world?
Cena: It is a new character — the universe is kind of being redesigned and I think the audience is going to love it. It will be a new version of the main villain of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”

TheWrap: How involved were you in his evolution?
Cena: I was shown artwork very early on (which was awesome), then began to talk details with the writing team and came up with little nuances to help get the best look that we could for the Baron. I am really happy with the end product.

TheWrap: Draxum is described as an “alchemist warrior mutant who seeks to turn all of humanity into mutants” — can give us any other teasers to explain that?
Cena: He is certainly a mutant and all of the villains have a shred of truth to them. He believes what he is doing is for the sake of good, but ends up doing bad as his views are skewed a little bit. I love the fact that he is overly logical and the Turtles are very whimsical, so the interactions with him and them is really funny.

I think I'm going to love this show while everyone hates it

It's one of those weird takes on the franchise that you can't help but like because they're doing new stuff. Like TNM. Refreshing. bring on Knuckles Raph, I'm ready! (Leader Raph not so much but I heard Leo will take the role in the second season)

I'll call people who don't like it racists/sexists because it's only because of Black April they dislike it. That strategy worked for Star Wars

I did wonder that too just for a moment, along with the description of unique origin/beginning (whatever the description was) but just a passing thought rather than a serious one.

I don't see a problem with introducing a new major villain at the start of a series, every new series does this. Like Hun in 2k3, Old Hob in IDW, Nick with Xever/Bradford.

Shredder will clearly be in the series.

Yes, we must. Also the fact that the new villain is confirmed a mutant obviously means there will be human enemies in the show. Shredder and the Foot will probably appear in the next few episodes.

Remember how the Nick show focused on the Kraang in the first two episodes? How is this any different? I imagine this show will focus on mystical mutant beings whereas the Nicks how focused on the Kraang.

The difference this time however, is that Shredder was revealed long before the Nick show actually began.

We still have 9 months till the show airs so the creators could still be waiting for the right moment to leak it, but the lack of mention about Shredder and the confirmation of an entirely new villain is a bit concerning.

They literally just revealed one villain. I'm sure this guy isn't the only villain the 26 episodes of Season 1. From what I remember the Kraang were revealed in the very first Nick promos/descriptions in early 2012 as well, even if Shredder was too.
