People can be so frustrating. They’ve created a mechanism for hounding people out of their jobs, and they think that it only works on people they don’t like. It’s like Jurassic World 2 where dinosaurs only kill bad people.

On the same token, if you hire someone who started out at Troma, you shouldn’t expect them to have a clean record, and If you give a sitcom to a crazy lady who is prone to offensive outbursts… you get the point.

"But those mechanism works only against bad ones, not good ones!!"
A good example of progressives immaturity and lack of logic: they genuinely think, that their rhetoric can not be used against them and their allies. Maybe this case will open eyes of some of them, though most will continue to live in denial.

This might be true if the people raising the fuss were doing so in good faith, and not 10 years after the fact.

And you know what's weird, all of those edgy comedians who so often flood the media with talks about how politically correct our society is, are suspiciously silent right now.

You'd think fellow Disney employee Tim Allen would have a statement out there.

He was so edgy back in the day.

Not to mention the fact that he's a convicted drug dealer.

I don't even know that I love GotG 1 or 2 (I like 2 a little better than 1), but this is sets a horrible precedent and needs to be undone.

The precedent's been set for a while, m'man.

This is the environment that the recent trajectory of Western culture has created.

So trippy. It's like good intentions and deep-seeded self-righteousness gone awry.

It's hard not to vent frustrations, and even harder to maintain a healthy, rounded perspective. I just feel so frustrated at everyone pointing the finger. It seems so many are quick to judge others while they should be working on themselves. Obviously, we need to shut down those who are truly dangerous to others, but the intentions are so riddled with misery at this point.

It's like this first time in history, when something good on paper turns into hilarious idiotic nightmare in reality.

People don't learn from history.
I'd say, that it especially concerns people who say that they are smarter than everyone before.

The gun doesn't care if the person who pulls the trigger is doing so in good faith. Disney don't care about right or wrong, they care about profit and loss, and they evidently didn't care what James Gunn was tweeting ten years ago until it became a risk.

How did it become a risk though?
Certainly not to their bottom line, but I guess I can see the risk of violence being real. I mean after all, the guy involved did get someone to shoot up a pizza parlor looking for smuggled children.

I can see where negotiating with that level of terrorism seems like a good business decision.

Usually the tags people add to these types of threads are eyerolls, but "jumped the gunn" might be the best thing I've heard from this whole ordeal. Bravo.

Who is the "guy" you are speaking about? What's his name?

Edit: Seems you're talking about Floyd "Huston" Huddleston.

The risk is associating their brand with pedophilia, which could indeed be a risk to their bottom line. That's why they don't tend to mention it the ads for Disneyland.

If Gunn had been joking about virtually anything else, I think he would have gotten away with a mea culpa, but Disney sells itself as a company that people can trust with their kids. And to be fair, ten years ago or not, the tweets were pretty extreme. It would be easier to square with people if they were funny, but they were more creepy and disturbing than funny.

Is this still a hot topic? I'm surprised how fast I got over the whole thing. It's not like Gunn's life is ruined or anything.

And yet Disney knew about their existence before they hired him to make GOTG.

If these were new, sure maybe but the the difference between now and 10 years ago as we have a politically motivated Hate Machine using pedophilia as new form of McCarthyism.
And Fringe members of that group or more than happy to bring violence with them wherever they go. I still think that's the real concern.
