I'm really glad this is a historical drama rather than an attempt to do a live-action adaptation of... the actual game.
Can't help but think the international politico-thriller aspect will be exaggerated in light of recent world events. Now that I think about it, the whole story is a fascinating story about Russian, American, Dutch, and Japanese visionaries getting on the same page to create a massive global phenomenon.

Which is exactly what I'd always assumed this would be until now! I was imagining some kind of Battleship-like adaption, with alien shapes coming down from the sky.

I also imagined some kind of over-the-hill celebrity comedy in the vein of Pixels.

Tetris movie
I think you can make a loosely Tetris-based movie:
Soviet Union, 1984. A young girl and a boy in her age (to please everyone) are into computer and video games. When Tetris comes out, they are instantly hooked. Of course, not everyone likes this, and think they should join the Soviet Pioneer Movement instead. Fast forward to 2034. The two Tetris-playing children are since long adults and work with science and technology. When a strange spacecraft approaches and extraterrestrials from another planet attack Earth, they try to kill all lifeforms on Earth before sacking the planet on its natural resources. The two scientists must use their skills they got from playing Tetris in their youth and turn it into military strategy and organize the Earth Defence Forces, a joint NATO and Russia force in a final attempt to save Earth and destroy the intruders. Think of Swing Kids meet War of the Worlds or Independence Day, driven by Tetris. Last edited by Original TMNT Cartoon Fan; 03-04-2023 at 01:01 AM. |
