Is Playmates ruining the series?
Do you guys think that Playmates are hindering the television series with their strong demands for mutant characters? While they do make some awesome toys, I feel that they are always requesting for so many gimmicks added to each tv series which to me helps delude the quality.

Eh... from what I've seen recently in stores at least, not really. Last time I took a peek at my Walmart to see what they had, and actually caught them well stocked, right now the vast majority of stuff was the Turtles themselves, like ones with sound, those mix and match ones, etc. That sort of stuff at least doesn't need any involvement in what the show is doing.
Not really sure who suggests having the amount the show includes since it doesn't seem like the company will necessarily do everything. (Granted I haven't looked at lists for upcoming stuff for a while.) |

All the mutants in the series are because of the writers, not Playmates. The show was intended to be mutant heavy from the start.

And it was intended to be Mutant-Heavy to sell toys... you can bet that was Nick's call. It's like asking what came first, the chicken or the egg.

Not talking about the side toys that have some special feature or whatever. Like the bigger, non-show stuff is ok quality wise but the basic line is awful.

Apart from the comics, the TMNT franchise has ALWAYS been driven by toy sales. Every cartoon, every movie. This will never change.

Sadly kids these days don't spent as much time playing figures as the OT generation did. Sure, there were some video games, but they were still budget-minded and toys were still a creative way to pass time. Nowadays, it seems like every kid uses an iPad or computer to play digitally, along with the fact that many more companies want to license their products, creating loads of competition. Unfortunately, like the demise of the OT wave, Playmates is doing the "too many variants". That said, in just three years of this toy line, there is as much product released as in the first six years of the original line. This creates saturation and sometimes too much stuff can cause overkill, and with this comes a decline in distinctiveness and overall effort. Focus more on electronic stuff like apps, video games, creative functions like art and comic stuff, and multi-person activity in order to create a more interactive experience that provides the greatest enjoyment for their value which will continue their growth with the brand.

No. I've enjoyed every Playmates figure up to date.
