What does Nickelodeon not allow IDW to do?

Alopex reminds me of Bludgeon: a slightly different and pretty much better looking version of an animal with an existing mutation. For instance, if you're going to mutate a hammerhead you might as well use Bludgeon again, but if you're mutating a nurse shark chances are you're going to want to make it a new character.

The FW cartoon ignored most characters from Mirage (I think Baxter, Rat King, Casey and Leatherhead were the only ones taken from the comic aside from the main cast), the 4Kids series ignored the FW characters (for a very good reason) and the Nickelodeon cartoon pick and choose like crazy. I don't see why Ninjara would need to be in the IDW series.

The original toon actually used almost every major Mirage character at the time except Fugitoid, Renet/Savanti, and some of the one-off human characters.

You have to remember the original cartoon started in 1987, the Mirage comics were only 3 years old at that point. They didn't even have much material to work with since the Mirage comic was in its infancy.

Still the fact that Fugitoid never made it into the original cartoon for even a single episode is bizarre.
