Where Can I Get the Original IDW Issues?

Hey guys,

I'm a bit of a comic book novice, so this might sound naive...but I've been meaning to start reading the IDW TMNT series. But every comic book store I've been to only has the more recent ones (and I guess that's to be expected). The oldest issue I've found was in the early thirties. But I don't want to start from the middle, obviously. So where can I go (or what can I do) to find the older ones?

I'm aware that there are spin-off series and one-shots and things like that, and I've seen some villain micro-series, as well; but I'm only looking for the main ones (unless reading those spin-offs is necessary). Again, sorry if I come off as ignorant; I've had zero experience with looking for comics until recently.

Any comic shop online should have the single issues. But you might as well just go with the trades which collect every 4 issues.

Yeah, the easiest way to do it is to grab the trades, which collect everything in 4 issue story arcs. And yes, you want to read the one shots and miniseries as they all tie into continuity and contribute a lot of foreshadowing and character development.

You got to dig man!

ebay, comic conventions, online stores, etc.

the trades would be the easiest way though...

If you just want them now and you want them cheap, get the digital trades. I think they're on sale right for Halloween still. You can always pick up the singles later.

I'm collecting the TPBs (it's the cheapest way if you want a printed copy), and buying them on amazon.

Also you pretty much HAVE to get all the micros, specials and mini-series. Everything ties into the main series and you'll miss tons of story elements if you don't.

Would they have the trades online, as well?

If I can't get my hands on any physical copies (or if I can only find a few), I'll probably just end up doing that. I don't want to half-and-half it...I'd want either all physical or all digital.

If you wait a bit longer you could pick this up: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1631401114..._blbyub042F9AP It will supposedly collect the first 12 issues and 5 micros for a great price!

Yes, you can find them for good prices on Amazon, from the beginning to the most recent. That's how I get them- and you'll probably want to order them two or three at a time, to get the free shipping. It's cheaper than ordering individual issues.

FYI, if you're going to read through trades and want to know what order to nab the side stories in:

The Heroes collection (vols 1 and 2 or the hardcover that has both) is a companion volume to Enemies Old, Enemies New (TMNT vol 2) through the beginning of Krang War (TMNT vol 5). There are usually notes at the beginning telling you where they fit in and it'll make sense as you go.
Secret History of the Foot Clan takes place between Krang War and City Fall (vol 6-7).
The Villains collection (ditto on how Heroes was published) starts as an epilogue to Krang War (#1 and 2) and the rest (#3-8 ) function as side stories fleshing out City Fall.
Utrom Empire is a companion volume to Northampton (vol 8 ).
Turtles In Time takes place between Monsters, Misfits and Madmen (vol 9) and New Mutant Order (vol 10).
