Gender Shipping Poll
I was just watching "Sonic adventure 2 in 4 minutes" when, after several jokes about shipping, it made me wonder which genders are mostly into shipping characters since I only know about female shippers. Just done out of curiosity.

We talking fan fics, in our minds or what? Sometimes I do (mentally as a what if scenario but laugh it off as stupid), but I try not when doing fan fics (which I haven't done in a while).
Hrmm. the more I write the more I realize this thread isn't for me.

I like pairings/couples in TV shows, movies, cartoons, etc. obviously, but I don't actively ship anything in that I'm spending every waking hour hoping two fictional characters get together.

Cubed that's not what shipping means. It's just your preferred or hoped for pairing in a given fictional world. I'm a shipper in certain shows or comics. For an example, I ship Agent Morgan and Penelope Garcia of Criminal Minds, even though they were never actually a couple. I just like them as a pair.

Not really. I mean, I've done it before, in the sense of thinking certain couples would turn out better than canon ones. But never went overboard with it.
It seems to me that shipping, the term at least, has originated in the Pokémon fandom. Does EVERY ship in that fandom have a fancy name for it? |

Nah man, shipping started with X-files. You were either a Shipper, or a No Romo when it came to Mulder and Scully.
Not to be confused with slash, which is a Star Trek Fandom invention. And if your have opinions about fictional relationships, you're a shipper. Regardless of your gender identity.

Nah, pretty sure shipping was around long before X-Files. Heck, I was doing it on He-Man (Adam and Teela- who didn't?) LONG before Mulder and Scully were created! (Also She-Ra/Adora and Bow, And there are the Rick/Lisa or Rick MinMei fans from Robotech, etc.....)

True enough. I was just pointing out that the actual "act" of shipping has been around a lot longer. Maybe even as far back as Scooby Doo. (Fred/Daphne? I KNOW that one is pretty old.)

I'm a dude and I support the shipping of Raph and Mona Lisa, they are more then just shipping characters, they are a legitimate couple.
I also support the Raph and Ninjara ship from the Archie comics. Raph is just the luckiest Turtle of them all. Last edited by TigerClaw; 02-27-2016 at 05:22 PM. |

Plastron also mentioned Slash, which came from Star Trek and the pairing of Kirk and Spock. |

I'm not sure if that's something that was actually a "thing" back then, or is more recent as a spin-off of "bromance" (or "buddy") type tropes. I mean, fan-fiction in general dates from that time, (And was apparently originally a Trek-specific thing) but I'm not sure how much of that was ever actually "slash" in nature. Since none from that period really still exists currently. (Unless there is an archive somewhere for old written fan-fics from the 70's or 80's, before internet made it widely available to find.) Especially given the attitudes toward those kinds of pairings back then- IE, homophobia/bashing and/or mostly closet gays. Would anyone back then have even used that term? Seems more like a recent invention, along with shipping itself. (Also, slash is generally- though not always- seen as more of an anime/manga thing. Just an observation.)

I wonder what the shipping wars would have been like had the internet exists in the 70's when Star Wars came out. Luke/Leia shippers would have been horrified when they found out they were siblings in Episode 5. Or some would have liked it even more.

I have Amazon Prime so I usually just get things received within the next two days. If this falls on a day I know I'm not going to be home, I'll go for free 5-day and I normally get a tiny bonus for doing that.
For places outside of Amazon, I prefer USPS. They have access to the building and don't need someone to let them in like UPS/FedEX/DHL/etc. do. That said sometimes we get a clueless carrier and I spend up to three extra days trying to get something in my hands.
