His Dark Materials: The Series
The Golden Compass. The Subtle Knife. The Amber Spyglass.
Anybody read these books? I just finished the first two on audiobook and am most of the way through the last one. The BBC is developing the story into a miniseries which I think will premiere by the end of the year. If you're into anti-authoritarianism or philosophy you'd probably like these books. Also, having a daemon would be really ****ing cool

It's been several years since I read this trilogy. The first two were quite enjoyable. Loved the concept of daemons.
The Amber Spyglass, however...... oh boy. I really wanted to like that book, but it just did not work for me. I seem to remember it being quite boring, and it was quite a struggle to finish it. Worst of all, I had difficulty caring what happened to any of the characters. One caveat: this seems to be a minority opinion.

Oh man, forgot I made this thread
I agree that the first two are largely better than the third; the third suffers from something of a slowdown in the third quarter. I did like the ending but it was also very bittersweet. Still, one of my favorite science fiction/fantasy trilogies.
