Not sure why they keep working "Robotnik" into these articles, the character has universally been called Eggman for 20 years, which is basically always at this point.

I think a lot of people actually do remember him as Robotnik. Even kids I’m sure know his original name. Eggman didn’t really start til Sonic Adventure.

SA2 introduced Gerald Robotnik. That’s the name it used.

Even Sega Japan said his real name is Robotnik (Sonic adventure 2), Eggman is just a nickname.

Oh god, not even the shadows can hide how hideous this design looks. I'm already creeped out by the joints and muscles.

I'm not joking when I say they would have been better off just shoving the Uekawa design into live action. There's a reason Sonic has noodle limbs and oversized hands, it actually makes him look cute. If you keep the giant head just to make him recognisable, it's creepy.

Giving him more realistic body proportions is creepy as hell. Especially given that to us, he's an alien.

He literally looks like a guy with an oversized Sonic mask.

If you look at the image closely. You can kind of make out the face. You can see the snout and where the eyes are. So I think his face will look something like this.

Seriously though, I'm wondering why they didn't just go with Modern Sonic instead of making what appears to be a more realistic design, even down to the shape of the limbs? Even though he may stand out more in a world of real life people, wouldn't using cartoony Sonic be more marketable for toys and merch?

That being said, Detective Pikachu has some pretty cool Pokemon designs, but thats partially because they gave them the same exaggerated and cartoony features that they have in the games/anime. With this, I hope they don't go the route of some other properties (such as those owned by Disney) which have given CG characters hyper realistic designs, making them look off to say the least.

Its Paramount. And they got the producers of The Fast and the Furious and the director of Deadpool is also a producer for it.
