TMNT Event at The Melt - Cleveland, OH 8/20

Just saw this flyer for a TMNT-themed food item at the Melt in Cleveland, OH and a screening of the TMNT movie at a nearby theater. For those of you wondering, Melt specializes is grilled cheese sandwiches, even offering a macaroni & cheese grilled cheese sandwich. The restaurant was featured a couple of years back on Man vs. Food, as a matter of fact.

Check it out:

That's pretty awesome. I wish the area I lived in would do fun stuff like this.

It's been quite some time already, but I had a rare opportunity to catch it in theaters again in the mid/late nineties. Whereas Cleveland used to have quite a few small movie theaters, perhaps with 2-4 screens each, they've now mostly been replaced by the mega complexes with anywhere from 8-24 screens. One of those smaller theaters, called Yorktown, sat vacant for a short time before some guy rented it out and tried making it a sort of novelty theater. Instead of showing current releases, he'd show cult classics or have a set of themed movies. One Halloween, he showed a series of 6 horror movies that began at 7 PM and went through until 7 AM. Anyway, the first series he arranged was what he called Masters of the Martial Arts, which included a couple of Jackie Chan movies, Enter the Dragon, and the original TMNT.

My buddy and I went to the theater to see TMNT, and we showed up about 15 minutes early. The funny thing is that as soon as we bought the tickets, the guy walked out of the booth and told us, "I'll go start your movie." We were the only ones in there! As you can probably imagine, his business didn't last very long, and the theater closed back down. I believe that it's now used as some sort of church.

Ah yes, Melt does this often with classic movies, showing them in theaters and having a weekend-only sandwich. Wish I could make it there this weekend! Wouldn't mind seeing TMNT in theaters either..

That's awesome, love the flyer. If anyones going, pick one up for Luzmagica, huh?

I had the great experience of seeing the film in a cinema a few years back. Me and my ex used to work in the same place (where we met, actually.) We lived together, and used to walk past a cinema (of which, we used to frequent regularly.) On one of our morning board checks to see what was on, I noticed they were showing the original film that coming sunday. Went in, bought tickets, and boy, it was amazing! It must've been a real old reel, the film was scratchy, the sound was all coming from the front instead of all around, and it was amazing! Karen was supposed to be working that morning, but called in sick so we could go together. It was about a third full I want to say (I can't quite recall) but there was about an equal amount of people who woulda grew up with the movie, and people who had came in with their kids.

Here's the stub:

I wanted to go, but after getting 3 hours of sleep Friday night, I was exhausted and couldn't make the midnight showing. Sucks being old.

I wish. I am from Cleveland and visit there often, but I'm living in Albuquerque at the moment. How as the food? Was there a good crowd? What part of CLE are you in?

Sorry you couldn't make it. The food was great. I love Melt. The movie had a great crowd too. It was packed, and everyone applauded at the beginning and the ending.
