Here come the "whitewashing" comments from people who don't realize Danny was always a white guy.

Well...while we're waiting for them to arrive, I'll be over here musing about how they managed to find a blonde white guy not named Chris. And sighing disappointedly that they passed on a different casting.

I get the outrage at casting another white pretty boy for the role. No issue with that at all. My problem is people assuming they changed the ethnicity of the character and complaining about that. I never thought about it but I saw someone bring up a great point about casting an Asian actor as Danny. It would be weird that the first Asian character in the MCU is one that studies martial arts.

It would also be weird that being an entitled white guy is integral to Danny's story; he's an outsider in every way.

Besides, yeah... it's not a win if the first Asian character in the MCU is a stereotypical kung-fu master.

On a different topic, what sort of antagonistic individual or force do you think will unite the likes of Matt Murdock, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Danny Rand into the Defenders? Who do they come together to fight?

I've yet to see someone assume that IronFist is anything other than a whiteboy, or see a version of the character that's anything other than a whiteboy.

Whether it'd be more weird to have yet another Asian Martial Arts master or to continue on with mighty whitey...well that's debatable.

Considering that of the four Defenders getting TV shows on Netflix, one is a white woman, one is a blind white man, and one is a black man, I feel like Netflix MCU is already doing far more for diversity than cinematic MCU. I can live with Danny Rand remaining his original ethnicity.

I dunno, I've always thought of The Hand as more Daredevil and Elektra-centric. Are there any lower-level team-up villains these guys go up against? Thanos Lite?

Not familiar with this dude, but they haven't really gone wrong with casting these Netflix shows yet, except maybe Foggy.

And yeah, I don't know how it became an overnight paradigm that Danny needed to be Asian. Go read the source material, please.

I feel ya. With Iron Fist you kinda can't win with the casting, either you cast a non-white and get the fan lash of not following the comics, and deal with The Martial Arts Kung Fu guy being (probably) Asian. And you can't have 2 Asian actors with Shang-Chi appearing, cause TV/Movie law says so. I mean the other black person in Star Wars 7 was playing a CGI character.

Or you cast a white guy and deal with the (blue-eyed, blonde) white savior complex and the not so sensitive origin 1970's Iron Fist have which was taken from Amazing-Man a 1939 Golden Age superhero, so you know you got some racism right there.

Ideally, he could be of mixed heritage which could be played very nicely with the outcast from both worlds angle.

As long as the costume have the 70's cleavage, I'm game.

The Meachum famiy stands united when Danny Rand returns!



Jessica Stroup (“The Following”) and Tom Pelphrey (“Banshee”) have joined the growing cast of the Netflix original series “Marvel’s Iron Fist” as Joy and Ward Meachum, childhood acquaintances of Danny Rand’s who now play an important role in Rand Enterprises.

The children of Harold Meachum (David Wenham), Joy and Ward have spent their lives building Rand Enterprises to its current standing in the world, only to have all their work put in jeopardy when Danny returns to claim his birthright.

“I’m very happy to have Jessica and Tom as our Joy and Ward Meachum,” said Executive Producer and Showrunner Scott Buck. “Much like Danny Rand’s past is a mystery to us, we’ll discover along the way that the Meachum children have intriguing secrets of their own."

Stroup and Pelphrey complete the cast of series regulars for “Marvel’s Iron Fist,” which includes Finn Jones as Danny Rand, Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, and David Wenham as Harold Meachum.

In “Marvel’s Iron Fist,” Daniel Rand returns to New York City after being missing for years. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.
