Saliendo De Sus Caparazones THE TOUR
I've uploaded an encoding of the SPANISH language version of the Coming Out of Their Shells Tour stage show to YouTube. https://www.ninjapizza.net/2021/02/s...ones-tour.html

Thanks for putting that up. It's certainly... interesting.
If it toured over here, I was never aware of it, and might have been considered just a smidgen too old anyway. Did kids at the time really like it, or were they weirded out and/or disappointed? Or, as I suspect, some strange state halfway inbetween? |

I thought it was kinda cheesy and dumb until I was front row at Six Flags for it, at which point I completely stopped giving a sh*t about that. As did my best friend, who most certainly was "too old for it."
I guess one could say, "It had a certain charm, but you kinda really had to be there." Also... I had no idea there was a Spanish version of this. Wow.

Man, I'm still not fully desensitized to this show. Easily one of the weirdest fvcking things I've seen in my life, and I've been aware of it for the better part of a decade now. Is the Spanish version... different? Or is it the same show as the English version, but dubbed?

It seems to be the same show, but a separate production with different, Spanish-speaking, performers.

I turned 12 in 1990, and remember the askance looks when I got myself a Michelangelo action figure. Apparently, in my particular warrior culture*, I'd hit the point where you stopped buying toys, and no one warned me. I can only imagine the reaction if I'd wanted to see this show. *If you remember the flashbacks in Highlander, it was exactly like that, only different. |

I know spanish, I'll watch it and see if there's any real differences, it seems not but perhaps there's some added dialog that implies some connection that wasn't in the original since adaptations need to make changes.
Was the PPV event the same as the VHS one? Or are there two different COOTS tour videos? |

Same performance, but there were more interludes for the PPV. I specifically remember some pre-show stuff with the reporter guy. There might have been more that didn't make it to the VHS.

Since this is the obscure COOTS topic, in what other talk shows were the COOTS in? I know Oprah but what were the others? I just want to look those interviews up.
I remember downloading the PPV version many years ago and always wondered if the VHS one was different. |

I always forget, is that the one where the hose in the one Turtle's mask broke, and when he started "crying" after being asked about his mother it ended up spraying everywhere? I always forget. But I remember that goof being so prominent (despite being a pre-taped segment that they maybe could have edited or removed entirely) that TV Guide mentioned it in their preview of the episode, like "Watch for this, it's hilarious."
Seriously, I don't know why such a massive goof actually made it to air since it was a pre-tape. The whole THING was ridiculous but that just made it into full-blown tragic. In hindsight, I'm a little surprised that this whole thing didn't completely kill "Turtlemania" in one fell swoop. But I think it definitely got the ball rolling.
