NPR tweets the Declaration of Independence on July 4th...
...Hard core Trump supporters don't recognize it and think NPR is attacking Trump.

So the point of this thread is what exactly? To mock Trump supporters? Sure isn't enough of that on this Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles forum.

Probably a lot of it was FAKE retweets, to make a FAKE story about Trump fans being salty about it. Like they're doing right now.

Well unless Trump supporters are a hive mind, it only makes fun of the fools who didn't recognize that they were Tweeting quotes from the Deceleration of Independence.
Had seen it shared via FB and got a small laugh. Only small because that's actually rather sad and concerning. I just... Why wouldn't the dated language at least tip people off that it might have been from a historical document? lol It would have been very easy to Google just ONE quote first, instead of just making assumptions, before responding and looking like a fool. This stuff is why other countries think we're stupid. |

I can't say the same for other Trump supporters, but I see nothing wrong with tweeting the Declaration of Independence, especially on July 4. Seems more like stupid people who got offended over nothing.
Nothing new here, folks.

Not making fun of Trump supporters. Making fun of the dumb ass idiots who don't know enough American History to recognize one of the most important documents of our country, on its anniversary.
I mean, my mom voted for the guy and she knew what it was. Too many idiots thinking everyone is out to get Trump, so anything looking revolutionary (like, I dunno, the Declaration of Independence) being recited by some EVIL NEWS organization must be about Trump and hating him. Polarized people on both sides of the political spectrum have list their f:cking minds.

That is pretty sad that people don't even recognize the Declaration of Independence. I had to recite it and memorize it in one of my history classes in high school. But this is what our country has come to. I remember my sis saying that she saw on Facebook that a veteran went out on the streets and asked people what Memorial Day was and most of the people he talked to didn't even know that holiday. It's pretty sad how people don't even know things like this.

Yeah, it's such a shame. People are so stuck in their own little bubble anymore.

Not only do people not recognize the DoI, but they completely neglect to acknowledge the time period in which it was written. The second amendment is so clearly written so that British soldiers-or any foreign soldiers-cannot force themselves in the homes of civilians. Just an example.
Today, people quote the DoI like it's the Bible and do not take into account that it was written in the eighteenth century. Some of the words have totally different contexts than today's world. People only see what they want to see. They take history and appropriate it to their own devices. It's anachronism at its finest. |
