It’s hard to shake the tragedy of this, when you see it everywhere. People die everyday but we are mostly concerned with what is in front of us.
Today I’m really feeling for the mother, father, and daughter who went down together, but I have some comfort in the fact that they were together. Maybe that just expands the level of tragedy in some eyes, but I find a level of comfort in it. Same with Kobe and his daughter. |

I've flown on helicopters, they're perfectly safe and I'm sure safer statistically than most other forms of transportation.

Once you're no longer in contact with the ground, "safety" is defined using only the absolute loosest version of the term.
Sure, everything carries some inherent risk (inb4 someone chimes in "You can get hit by a bus while crossing the street!"), but the risk factor increases exponentially the farther off the ground you are. That's just math. It's also why we don't have flying cars. Never flown, don't plan to. All it takes is One Time, and my luck is historically among the absolute worst. At least when bad things happen on the ground, there's always a 1% chance (usually higher) that you can avoid or prevent it; once you're up in the air it's in God's hands. And I don't like that guy's record, myself.

Actually if you want to talk math, you are statistically wrong.

Statistics can be manipulated to "prove" anything. They're a bastard science.

Sure but that doesn't invalidate statistics.
