I liked the first couple of seasons. Didn't like the whole Shredder was an Utrom thing.

Watch the first four, how the turtles face the Purple Dragons, Shredder's Foot ninjas and Baxter Stockman as well as teamup with Casey Jones.

Even if Shredder was an Utrom he still had his Oroku Saki persona throughout most of the show that it didn't matter. And the 2k3 series eventually did introduce the "real" Oroku Saki later on anyway.

As a thousand year old demon with the power to transform into a dragon and transform reality in his image.

I don't see any Utrom-Shredder. Just Donatello, Krang and some Triceratons.

Uh... I don't expect everyone to know this but there's no way that's Krang and it's very likely Ch'rell on the cover.
Spoiler:

The more I look back on this show, the more I like it.

My favourite part has to be the soundtrack, really put a lot of atmosphere into the show. I especially love Splinter's theme, Shredder appears and the Foot Ninjas theme.

Shredder could've done more than blow up the Channel Six building. I don't mean as far as murdering Splinter, but think of the possibilities if censors were not an issue.

Shredder and Krang combined had the biggest arsenal of any villains in all of the cartoons.

This series was one of my favorite cartoons. I loved the art style, first four seasons specifically, I loved the story, and I loved the fight animation. The show was very well done. If (hopefully when) they release a dvd/bluray complete series set I would buy in a heart beat, it would be my dream come true.

Even though I saw the 1987 series first in 2003, not long after I found out about the 2003 series, and it instantly became my favorite version of the TMNT. Like others have said, the soundtrack and the atmosphere really bring this show together. Back when it was still on the air, I was really into the action figures, the FoxBox/4Kids TV website, ninjaturtles.com, etc. It was a great time to be a TMNT fan, although nowadays with the 2012 series, the comics are more readily available and there are a lot more collectibles than before.

Man, I love this show. Easily my favourite incarnation of the Turtles. Whenever I read TMNT comics, these are the voices I hear. The art style and animation are top notch... all great, great stuff.

April's choice of work clothes are hilarious. Crop top, cargo pants, and a lab coat. Like, she threw that on one morning, looked at herself in the mirror and thought "Yeah. This works."

Also, how bout that random moment in the pilot where Donatello smacks Mikey in the head with his bo? Always thought that was strangely out of character.

More likely Ma'riell. Ch'rell would have his scar and you kind kind of see the first of Ma'riell's back spines.

Not only that, but it's unlikely that Ch'rell would be involved in any Shredder stuff. Nor could I see any reason for him to want to. He'd probably just be more interested in firing up the Technodrome a second time, especially if he usurps his sister's leadership in some way.

For once he'd be free to be an antagonist on his own right without having to go undercover.

Sadly, even the release may take years. It took eight years to release the original series, between April 2004 and August 2012.

Same problem here. I had bought the entire first two seasons, as well as volumes 3.1-3.3 on VHS. So I just recently purchased the first two seasons, as well as the 3.1-3.3 episodes on amazon digital video. Now the only episodes that I have to watch on VHS are the Back To The Sewer episodes, which were never released.

I definitely can understand the whole not liking Shredder as an utrom. Fortunately, as Cybercubed pointed out, he really wasn't portrayed as Ch'rell. Heck, most of the time, he wasn't even portrayed as the Shredder. The majority of the time, he was mostly portrayed as Oroku Saki.

You know what I want... a release of the complete series in a vehicle case like was done with the OT. Eventually want that OT set, but I really want a similar one for 2003 (and 2012) as well.

I sure did. Back before I began DVRing my favorite shows. Even as late as 2008, I was still taping them on VHS. I've still got those tapes with the Back To The Sewer episodes on them.

Can identify with the hometaping thing. Had a few eps of BTTS on VHS (as I had no faith of a UK DVD release). Also have a few eps of BTTS and FF on DVD-R
