I really liked Margot as Harley in SS so I think this will be pretty good. Also hoping for Poison Ivy. Since I heard things about a female ensemble cast, maybe Black Canary could be in it?

Maybe we'll see more of Jared Leto's Joker this time?

So after they announced the Harley Quinn solo movie (along with Suicide Squad 2), then Gotham City Sirens, then Joker & Harley, I think most of us assumed the original Harley Quinn solo movie had been abandoned or merged into one or all of the other ones.

It wasn't.

Just for fun, let's review all the DCEU movies in varying degrees of production:

Aquaman
Shazam!
Harley Quinn
Suicide Squad 2
Wonder Woman 2
Harley & Joker
Untitled Joker Origin movie
The Batman
Flashpoint
Nightwing
Batgirl
Deathstroke
Black Adam
The Batman
Cyborg
The Green Lantern Corps
Justice League Dark
Booster Gold

It's shocking to me that just about all of those are further along than any "Man of Steel 2."

Half of those are doomed. And half of those are unneeded and unwanted.

Sadly, those two halves do not necessarily correspond...

And there’s also a Harley and Joker movie coming too, right? I have no idea what’s going on anymore

Don't worry, neither does anyone at DC or Warner Brothers.

The level of incompetence in the running of this film empire is so staggering, words fail me.

For every movie I might possibly be interested in seeing, there are half a dozen that baffle the mind.

The Batman? Well, let's offset that with New Gods, The Flash, Harley and Joker, Harley's Fantabulous Emancipation and some Birds of Prey without Oracle, Shazam 2... you're welcome.

It's funny because Marvel had provided pretty straightforward guide on "how to make your cinematic universe": start with solo movies, have one person (who loves and understands characters) as a head of all projects and then go to the bigger stuff.

As of now it appears that WB wanted to make Avengers almost without any preparations and had dozen of cooks, tugging DCCU into different directions.

The most bumming thing for me is that they managed to fail to make a movie about Batman, arguably the most popular comic book character, who works pretty much in everything, from comedy cartoons to dark grim and realistic settings.

Indeed, WB level of incompetence is just legendary.

As for Harley movie, I want them to make it good, but I have very little hopes for it. WB proved time and time again, that if its not Batman there is about 90% that the movie will suck.

See, though, you don't HAVE to follow the MCU "rinse and repeat" formula. DC could shake things up, do team-up movies with a few important flashbacks to establish key characters (say, Green Lantern, Flash, etc) and not even bother with backstory for Batman.

The problem isn't "should have followed the MCU paint-by-numbers", but "believe in your directors/writers, and stick to your damn guns." Do retcons or course corrections, but don't throw out the whole damn plan every time somebody hates on your latest movie.

Always keep moving forward.

I am just going by what had worked so far.
And so far, Marvel is the only who was able to successfully create a cinematic universe. Everyone else had failed.

Just watched Suicide Squad and what a mess of a movie, it spent way too much doing world building, the tone is all over the place, joker is not very jokerish, I mean I appreciate being different from Leto but it just wasn't good.

Enchantress was a great villain but shouldn't be in a Suicide Squad movie, they really should've kept it more realistic in tone. I don't know I wanted to like it but it's just not fun.

This is what I said years ago about the problem with the DC cinematic universe and I"ve mentioned it many times since then. DC everytime it gets some bad press decides to scratch all their plans, they did it with Superman Returns, with Green Lantern, and pretty much with every DCEU movie starting with Man of Steel.

DC also didn't need to introduce every character with a solo movie, did we need a WW/Flash/Hawkgirl/Martin Manhunter cartoon before Justice League? No. Did we need an origin for Batman in BTAS? No. We know who Batman is, we can meet the other heroes for the first time in Justice League and they can expand. It's not like people were heavily invested in Avengers until the first Avengers movie came out, the only big hit before it was the two iron man movies.

DC has a lot going for it but it just has never stuck to what they want to do.
