Should the TMNT be part of a bigger media franchise?

We all know that the turtles are the main characters in their own comics, cartoons, films and videogames. But does anyone think the TMNT instead should be part of a much bigger and well-established media franchise?

I know the Mutanimals comics were popular for some years during the early 1990's, and Mirage Studios have published Casey Jones minicomics, while Archie Comics published April O'Neil minicomics.

But I'm talking about a much more well-established universe, like DC Comics or Marvel Comics, where the TMNT may be just one comic subtitle (but maybe still the largest).

I'm talking of a universe where you have:

The TMNT in New York City

Mutanimals in Brazil maybe

Casey Jones and his fights against New York City street punks

Something set in Japan where the struggle for leading the Foot continues

If April O'Neil is a reporter, maybe something dealing with her Channel 6 job while being a friend of the turtles

Justice Force (I know not everyone likes that concept)

The Theta Galaxy or Dimension X (or whatever) lightyears away from Earth, deeper exploring the civilizations, planets and conflicts there (Kraang-Utroms, Triceratons, Neutrinos, Humanoid Federation or whatever)

An alternate Earth where Miyamoto Usagi lives

All this would be much more long-lasting and well-established than what we currently have, liked together, sometimes crossing over. For example, the Justice Force can fight the Triceratons without the turtles showing up every time they do that.

So instead of being a TMNT fan, you're a fan of this franchise, whatever it should be called? Maybe Heroes, Mutants and Ninjas

You mean like a crossover story? I don't mind.

Basically expanding the whole thing?

I suppose, why not. Though peronally I wouldn't be interested, I'm in it for the Turtles.

This. I don't really want to see the lives of other mutant characters and April expanded upon, honestly.

I would love this.

The TMNT has potential to be bursting at the seams with lore beyond the turtles themselves, but it's just never been given the chance.

I've had to invent some Dimension X stuff on my own to scratch the itch for it.

Now we find out how tragic his life was. All he wanted was love, but Tiffany sucked every last penny out of him.

Shredder could've done more than blow up the Channel Six building. I don't mean as far as murdering Splinter, but think of the possibilities if censors were not an issue.

Shredder and Krang combined had the biggest arsenal of any villains in all of the cartoons.

Asking this is like asking "do you think Batman or Spider-Man should exist in a world with other people in it?" Of course, we know that they do, they exist in worlds with both regular people important to them, superpowered people who they may or may not interact with, as well as complete and total strangers.

The Turtles also already exist in a world with a full cast of characters, but they have always been the stars of their own property. If somebody could write a decent enough story featuring any of the Turtles' ancillary characters I'm sure they could make something entertaining out of it.

What? Basically the Marvel/DC model? That sort of thing shouldn't be forced into existance. You can of course make crossovers and spin-offs but they need to emerge from genuine interest, you can't just pump out ten sub-franchises out at once and expect them all to be a success.

Unless the Turtles was bought up by a company that already have a shared universe and shoved them in there, if not, no.

The TMNT is filled with characters, but none is as interesting or as captivating like the Turtles themselves to hold their own movie/show/ongoing comic

Nah. If it happened I would of course check everything out, though I feel it's unwarranted.

There's potential for Casey and/or The Foot having an expansion series of some sort, but not a whole lot beyond that. Even those would be stretched a bit thin, I figure.

I think Casey Jones of the 4 Kids series could be interesting, but I don't know for how long time.

I'd rather have some expansion over what we are getting now. At least it would help generate some new storylines and characters.

I like checking in on their allies and enemies when they're not with the turtles from time to time, see what sort of supporting casts they, themselves have in their lives. Makes the world feel "alive". I mean I don't need a six-issue mini-series about Irma and Lindsey going glasses shopping together but I do like what we were getting on occasion in TMNT Universe and that's why I'm sad it's gone after this week.
