TMNT 35th Anniversary Box-Set
Anyone picking this up today? It's now available to order online. Hoping someone who purchased this can report back on quality.
It’s essentially a box holding TMNT 1-4 and the Raphael Micro in their original size. Go ahead and search it, I can’t link to it at the moment but it will be easy to find. |

Somebody on Facebook posted pics on a TMNT group of it. Looks really cool. They seemed to highly recommend it. Can’t wait for mine to come in the mail.

Very disappointed on my side...
Art on the box set is good. But lies are still lies. The idea of publishing at the original size is great. It's part of TMNT myth. When IDW tell me "republished on original format", well, I purchase partly for that. It seems weird, but I like when items fit with promises. First thing when taking the single issues off the box, the covers strike me. The quality of the paper (and the printing) is of course different. But there is something else. A 1 inch black or white (according to the cover) margin. I took my Raph Micro Series from 1985 and yes : size is not the same. It might be a detail, but product is not what have been sold to me. I don't see the point of having comics of different sizes from actual comcis, and from Mirage first comics. When opening the issues, art is the same size as the original, but with a hug margin. That bother me, knowing the original material. The printing in quality actual paper bother me also. I don't know, the charm of the old is lost on it. I don't know what was the target of this boxset: the fan ? Maybe I'm the only one bothered by those "details" of size. The guy that might discover originals TMNT ? For 50$, I would recommand Ultimate Collection.

I am disappointed as well for the same reasons.
Moreover, there are adds at the end of each book for the Munchkin game and the IDW storyline. That really is in the wrong place in my opinion, you don't expect to see adds in a collector's box set (as you wouldn't in a Artist Edition for instance). |

Oh dear, it doesn't sound great. All these foibles are exactly the things I despise. When they proclaim they are essentially printing facsimile editions that's what I want to see!

Yeah, those sound like valid complaints to me. I appreciate you all sharing.

You can find a few pictures to compare there.

I got mine in the mail today. I pulled them out of the slip case and #1 and #2 both have a ding in the middle of the bottom edge and the Raph one shot has a bend on the upper right edge of cover. Not very pleased since these came in a nice rigid slip case. Might have to contact IDW since I doubt my local shop will do anything about it.

I hear what others are saying about the comparisons. I think the 6”x9” reproduction #1 that came with the Ultimate Visual History Book did a better job of reproducing the original #1. Since this set of books came in a slip case, they probably should have just printed them on heavier card stock for the covers since they aren’t exact reproductions or ones with minor differences from the originals.

Thats sad to hear about the added margins to the reprinted issues. After seeing those pics from a Turtle fans facebook page it ain't right and makes no sense. Not exactly true facsimiles in execution. Theres always the odd thing done by IDW thats just wrong with the Mirage stuff.

A user on the reddit TMNT board just posted pics of the 35th anniversary edition compared to a previous printing and found that there have been quite a few edits. Blood removed from panels, text has been altered to omit words like 'bleed' and 'seppuku', and 'death' has been edited to read 'defeat'.
This is just in book 1, and I haven't opened my set to see about other books yet. Has anyone else noticed anything? Had IDW commented on why they altered the comic? |

Isn't that just the comic from the 35th anniversary toy set though?
