Assuming the lead human will really be a cop, Rudd or not, sounds better to me than if it was a kid.
I don’t mind kids but I think in something like this they might get a lot of focus or it would imply really childish humor.

Apparently, Tika Sumpter might appear in this film.
Also, Sonic will be characterized as a "juvenile delinquent" in this film.

Doesn’t seem like they’d push the “juvenile delinquent” image that hard if at all. It has to appeal to kids too. I wonder if that’s just a poor choice of words.
It’ll probably be more like Sonic does things his own way and doesn’t want to follow the cop’s lead. One of the comments mentions it could be Sonic and pals aren’t used to earth. Their behavior could be seen as delinquent by humans. I really hope they show something at Comic Con. At least a picture of Sonic himself.

It sounds like Sonic Adventure 2.
It sounds like Sonic and friends arrive on earth, whatever the reason, and the government is after them because they think they’re aliens up to no good (the juvenile delinquency)...then obviously it’s revealed Eggman is the real villain. I’m very curious to know how many side characters will be in this. We can assume Tails but I wonder about Knuckles, Amy and anyone else.

The sad thing is, absolutly nothing about the movie revealed so far sounds anything like Sonic, replace him with any other random cartoon animal hero like Mighty Mouse and nothing revealed about the plot so far would need to change.
In fact it's even more sad when you realize Sonic Adventure and Sonic X already provided the ground work for a live action Sonic movie. Sonic and the Chaos Emeralds accidentally get sent to our world and befriends Tom, a cop of the city Station Square, and they team up to look for the missing Chaos Emeralds in a buddy cop movie kind of way. Dr. Eggman, a scientist highly ridiculed by his peers and wishes revenge, learns of the Chaos Emeralds and tries to get them before Sonic and Tom. Despite Sonic and Tom's best efforts, Eggman gets all the Emeralds and uses them to summon Perfect Chaos, a water monster of pure chaos, and orders the beast to destroy Station Square so he can build an even better city in it's place; Eggmanland. Tom and Sonic both realize the real superpower of teamwork or something and Sonic manages to use the Chaos Emeralds to transform into Super Sonic. Super Sonic and Perfect Chaos have an awesome CG battle as we annoyingly keep cutting back to Tom rescuing and leading other civilians to safety from the battle. Sonic wins, Tom and Sonic say their good byes as they fist bump and Sonic and the Emeralds go back to where they came from. It still wouldn't be a very good movie, but at least it would feel like they were trying. Spoiler:

Really nothing has been revealed about the movie...Sonic comes to earth, becomes friends with a human and fights Eggman.
There’s nothing sad (or great) about any of that. It’s exactly what it should be. It’s the absolute most basic information they could give us. To complain about that is just looking for something to complain about.
