Mortal Engines

Check out the Trailer for Mortal Engines, this is a new film produced by Peter Jackson, its based on a series of Novels

Thousands of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, humankind has adapted and a new way of living has evolved. Gigantic moving cities now roam the Earth, ruthlessly preying upon smaller traction towns. Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan)—who hails from a Lower Tier of the great traction city of London—finds himself fighting for his own survival after he encounters the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). Two opposites, whose paths should never have crossed, forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future.

Mortal Engines is the startling, new epic adventure directed by Oscar®-winning visual-effects artist Christian Rivers (King Kong). Joining Rivers are The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogies three-time Academy Award®-winning filmmakers Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, who have penned the screenplay. The Universal and MRC adaptation is from the award-winning book series by Philip Reeve, published in 2001 by Scholastic.

On board as producers are Zane Weiner (The Hobbit trilogy), Amanda Walker (The Hobbit trilogy) and Deborah Forte (Goosebumps), as well as Walsh and Jackson. Ken Kamins (The Hobbit trilogy) joins Boyens as executive producer. Universal will distribute the film worldwide. www.mortalengines.com

Yeah, I saw this trailer and it just kinda whispers "WTF" to me. Not even yells it, just kinda quietly catches my eye and goes "Sup, yeah... this is a thing, giant cities on tank treads!"

Certified bomb. Set to lose 125 million, probably much more factoring in marketing and whatnot.

I wish studios would give me sneak peeks at their movies. This smelled like a bomb from the first glimpse.

Alas, I was afraid this would work out like this.

The books are actually really good, but nothing about how the movie was being handled really seemed to fit right. I don't think it helps that everyone is still a bit jaded from the Hobbit movies, and Peter Jackson just kind of did more of the same here.

That said, I will see this eventually... but not sure if I'll make it to the theater.

I saw the trailers and I don't get it. It seems like a stupid idea for a movie to me.

Is anyone really surprised this is a flop, a bomb, a stinker?

I'm curious to see it, because I like Hugo Weaving and I like Jackson's adaptations, but this had "rotten" written all over it in red crayon from Day 1.

I saw it the other night while we were on a "theater whim".
It wasn't a bad movie per se, and visually it was cool. But there was a lot there that left me scratching my head and going "oooookay".

I chaulked it up to that I am old now and figured it was a movie for millenials like the Hunger Games - sort of soft science fiction featuring some phony fresh battle for existence that makes these people feel like they have some kind of struggle. LOL!

And then we left the theater.

It's funny, so many studios are trying hard to create a new young adult fantasy franchise... but they're bombing hard at every turn.

Nutcracker, this, House with a C*ck in its Walls, etc..

You would have though they'd learn from Percy Jackson, The Golden Compass, Eragon, etc.

Eragon was a good book, but I felt that the movie sucked.

The Golden Compass was a decent movie, but I have yet to read the book(s).
I think that I have most of the Percy Jackson books, but I am refraining from seeing the movie until the books are read. The same goes for Harry Potter.

What I noticed is that a lot of movie directors don't read the entire book when it comes to making a movie from the book. Memoirs of a Geisha can vouch for this - great book but IMO, one dud of a movie came to theaters & to DVD.

Jurassic Park was a decent movie, but the book was a lot more savage. JP was probably about the closest that the movie followed the book and even the movie changed & omitted things that happened in the book.
