If you read a lot, you come to find it's much more like, "Good films get made in spite of Hollywood," period.

I really enjoy each of the cited films - more than most people, probably - and I really enjoyed the first Wonder Woman, but they're all very much the exception rather than the rule.

As a rule, WB just kind of flounders about trying to catch onto whatever's popular with the masses at any given time, and they're always a day late and a dollar short because Copycatting is all they really know. Even Joker was an accident, they didn't even have any faith in it and now they're acting like it was all part of some Master Plan.

Honestly, it's for the best.
I have no interest in a naked Krysten Wiig. Like, ever.

Surely that's not the final look.

I don't think it's too bad. Fits in with the 80's nostalgia theme they're probably going for, and admit it, Cheetah's comic look would look ridiculous in live-action.

That's the kind of attitude that gave us 20 years of very small, grounded X-Men movies and things like almost the whole cast of Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey. We should be way past that now in 2019. A Cheetah werewolfwoman should not be a weird thing.

Each, I'm already imagining the "let's suit up" montage she'll probably have.

Dude, this is the equivalent to putting Catwoman in purple suede pants and a purple suede jacket. I hate to say this, but even Halley Berry's awful bondage Catwoman was better than this.....

Just make super hero movies with superhero costumes. That's part of the culture. We will buy in 95% of the time.

Yeah, I'm sure there's a reasonable middle ground between full-blown furry bait and "Regular Chick In Cheetah-Print Yoga Pants".

One thing that was amazing about the earlier DC stuff from MoS onwards is that, regardless of whether or not anyone liked the tone, or the color palette, they were completely unapologetic about the source material. "Gods exist and they occasionally walk among us. Aliens are a thing. Atlantis is real. These people wear outlandish costumes. Deal with it." They didn't try to water it down or "apologize" for it (MCU: "Odin and Thor and all of them aren't 'gods', they're just super-powerful aliens! PLEASE don't be offended by the implication of 'gods', we really don't want the bad ink. We good?" ). They just said "Here it is, accept it or keep walking.". And like Andrew, I've more than had my fill of these movies taking something that is grandiose and epic and making it into something tiny and "easier for neophytes to understand".

The first Wonder Woman leaned 110% into the comics, despite the source material for the character being pretty far out, but they still hit a home run. Everything about the new one seems like they're going in the complete opposite direction. Visuals, tone, everything. Instead of amazing costumes and stuff, we get Yoga Pants Cheetah? I'm sorry, it feels incredibly lazy, to me.

Ah well. The Cheetah design is far from the worst thing I've heard about. I loved the first one but I'm really feeling like this one is gonna be a hard pass from me. The first one was entirely the Wonder Woman that Jenkins (and Snyder) wanted to make, and reports have been out for a while that WB pushed back on a lot of the best parts and only left them in begrudgingly. This one feels like the movie that Warner Bros. wanted to make... And we know how THAT kinda sh*t goes.

We'll see.

This is incredibly well said.

Back in '07 I interviewed Jon Favreau in San Diego and he explained how the technology of Iron Man would create the buy-in for regular movie-goers as opposed to do something magical or out in space up front. He explained this to me because at the time the Mandarin was part of a planned Iron Man trilogy and he wanted to ease into the reveal where he explained to me almost verbatum, "I want the Mandarin to show up in a third movie, like the Emperor in Star Wars - on a throne, bristling with power".

But even amidst creating buy-in through technology rather than magic, they didn't shy away from making Iron Man LOOK LIKE Iron Man. And then everything went haywire on a trilogy after that.

So on top of that, maybe now some people know why I have such disdain for Iron Man 3. I heard of the trilogy plan from the man himself, only to have the whole epic thing turn into a joke.

IMJ: Ah, yeah. Like when I met Bret Hart in October 1998 the week before Vince Russo took over WCW creative, and he assured me that Bret vs. Hogan for the strap was the plan to main event Starrcade that year. Six days later, Russo sent Hogan home (not to return until February), and booked Bret vs. Goldberg for Starrcade instead, which aside from being pretty crummy was also the match where Goldberg kicked Bret straight to Concussion City and ended his career. What a bummer.

Different scenario, obviously, but it's the closest anecdote that I have to compare to yours. And yeah, every bit as frustrating. I feel you, dawg.

Fvcking exactly.

If people can enjoy a guy talking to ants or fish, or a talking tree with a three-word vocabulary, we can and SHOULD have a werecheetah.

Expectation bias, but ironically set up by true fandom rather than critical thinking error....

LOL at this.....

I can see a quick camera cut of a shot where you see hands pulling the 80's leopard print club-jacket over her shoulders and then tugging it down the center of her chest in a quick frame rate as if Sam Raimi shot it......

Why is this still a thing? Taskmaster in the Black Widow movie falls in this category too.

That awkward moment where a cosplayer does it better in his basement than a major Hollywood Studio and it's entire art department:

But now it's twice as bad because Marvel was not only outdone by a cosplayer, but by a video game too....

I read that they can't give Taskmaster a white skull because China won't allow it if they do. That's also why they had to get weird with the white on Crossbones' outfit.

Depressingly believable.
