Here's a question... obviously he can use the Force and he was taught briefly (collectively maybe 3 days... maybe) by a couple of Jedi, but can Luke even call himself a Jedi? He was never inducted into or was otherwise a part of their order, never went through the conditioning, never even set foot in a Jedi temple, and he was never a padawan or anything.
Seems to me Anakin remains (well, until he died, anyway) the titular last Jedi.

We had Yoda and Obi Wan, who's to say others didn't come out of the woodwork when they learned Vader was dead. Rylo Ren killed/destroyed the new temple Luke was building, we know this much from Han. So now...now Luke might be the last Jedi.

I always assumed that Luke visited Dagobah repeatedly between ESB and RotJ.

I really think Lucas was trying to make a distinction between "I can use the Force" vs. "I'm a Jedi" or "I'm a Sith." In fact, the prequels made the Jedi Order itself seem kind of inept (unable to detect the Sith Lord in their midst) and inherently flawed (if you join the Jedi, you can never love, you have to basically give up your family, etc.). I believe any Lucas-written third trilogy would have probably gotten away from Jedi Knights/masters, that sort of stuff.

They're monastic warrior monks/nuns. Not marrying, having earthly attachments, isn't exactly a new concept in fiction or the real world.

She's not even a Jedi. Just some Force sensitive chick who figured out how to move a lightsaber at a critical moment.

Jedi can also be plural, like The Last Samurai. Tom Cruise wasn't the last one, people, it was all of them.

Yeah, I get that. Same as Sith. I always took "Return of the Jedi" as plural.

I didn't mean you specifically, just throwing it out there. You all have good points and it can mean anything.

Do foreign languages have a plural for the word 'Jedi'?
If so, has Disney offered an official translation for the film's title in any of those languages? |

I haven't been following, are both Finn and Rey going to become Jedi or only one of them?

#2. Look at how closely VII mirrored IV: the desert orphan was the only Force sensitive character (Rey/Luke), the wanted antihero was decidedly NOT Force sensitive yet was absolutely necessary to the desert orphan's success (Finn/Han), and the beautiful damsel in distress had to be rescued from Imperial torture and interrogation (Poe/Leia). Princess Poe... eh, doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

Should Return of The Jedi be changed in its title since episode 8 is The Last Jedi? They restart beginning with Luke then reference the same again only that he is alone in his generation. Maybe I am overthinking it.

I assumed that that was just another one of your troll posts, so I gave your stupid question a stupid answer. If it was actually in earnest then I apologize.

How is it a retcon? Vader was known as a fallen Jedi from day one. And you see his force ghost in Jedi robes at the end.
