I'm not one to want to sit in the same position for too long a period, and my only minimally padded backside has zero appreciation for flat hard chairs like that, so either way, that looks uncomfortable as heck for anyone.

I...have never even heard of manspreading before...WTF? If it is matter of people being assholes and taking up more space sitting down than is reasonably allotted to them to the point of invading someone else's space because their head is up their ass---I have seen EVERYONE DO THAT!

Hell, I was just out with a friend today, we are both girls, and I had to basically tell her to (f)uck off, because we were sitting across from each other in a booth at a restaurant because she had her legs stretched out to the point where I had to keep my legs curled against the booth and was uncomfortable.

I wasn't sure what manspreading was until I heard it discussed elsewhere.

It's good to share a public seat.

This seems like a ridiculous invention. Here's an idea. Why not spread both chairs apart? Then one can Manspread without affecting the space of the other.

Still think she's in good part trolling everyone. I mean, this complaint seems to be primarily an issue in places like commuter trains, right? And obviously those aren't train applicable chairs. Nor would it work for anyone who has thicker legs than the skinny guys in the photos. And making them adjustable or coming in various sizes would just let thinner "spreaders" choose a wider chair and keep up the habit.

And speaking as someone who'd want to sit with a foot tucked under her part of the time, those so-called chairs make that impossible.


That whole project though is reinventing the mouse trap for an issue that would probably have an easier solution. Such as just put a metal divider of some sort between the leg space of each seat. Not too big or enough to trip people, but just large enough to be effective. Sit as wide as you want within the space of your own chair, but the spacer will prevent anyone's knees from intruding on other's space or preventing anyone from having a seat. (And put in arm rests to prevent anyone from thinking they'll be clever and sit in the middle between seats and straddle the divider.)
