Casting calls are now out along with character profiles. It's not good folks... not good at all.

This is gonna be hilarious. How far from the source material can we get? How many fans can we piss off? How many STDs can get passed around the triangle of Arch, Bets, and Veronica?
I've never been interested in Archie, but I feel for you fans...

I have to admit to being a closet Archie fan. I read Digest all through my childhood and into adulthood. I haven't actually read Archie in many years, but I've certainly read/heard about all the super progressive things they've been doing in comics. I've always wanted either A) a goofy Archie sitcom or B) a movie in the vein of Josie and the Pussycats.
This...nobody asked for this. |

Afterlife With Archie is Awesome and uber dark Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is just plain DARK and sooo not for kids The reboot of the franchise is nice and somewhat angsty (Im sure someday we'll find out WTF the "lipstick" incident was.) Archie vs Predator: AKA how to kill people off in the most greusome ways possible. This tho...Ugh... As for a movie. Well just find 1990's Return To Riverdale.

Where's Reggie, Moose, Midge & Big Ethel? This is a far cry from their Filmation series. This also marks post 2,150!

We're a long way from Archie's TV Funnies. I hope Mr Weatherbee turns out to be an undercover DEA agent.

The Multi-verse was established a couple years ago in Life With Archie: Married Life with a COIE type storyline (one that in the end only Mr. Lodge remembered). Ambrose, a character who's been around since the Lil Archie days, has the ability to travel in the multi-verse. The main opening is a street in Riverdale called Memory Lane. It's a small breach that alows people to travel to various earths. During the COIE type event there was a major breach that was closed thanks to Mr. Lodge (who kinda went all loopy after it ended), Moose, Ambrose, and a couple others.
Memory Lane was also used in the main book when Archie was dating Valerie (from Josie and the Pussycats). It showed him all the possible futures for him (mainly one where he was married to Valerie...Betty ended up as his sister-in-law as at the time she was dating Valerie's brother). All the various stories and books are now just simply part of the multi-verse (especialy in the ones in the double digest).

What's COIE?
I really don't feel like there's any kind of world the Riverdale characters wouldn't work in. If they want to put them in a teen drama with real-world problems, I don't see any reason why it shouldn't exist. I'm cool with having the new comics, the classic-style digests (which I understand are to continue as usual), and this new series. I'll definitely watch a couple to see how it turns out. I can comfortably walk away, accepting that it's not for me, so long as I feel they've done the characters justice. I think it's an exciting time to be an Archie fan. I hope all these wild things they're trying out succeed in keeping the property relevant.

So, like... has anybody been reading the new reboot series by Mark Waid and Fiona Staples? It nicely updates the characters and their world while retaining their classic appeal, doesn't needlessly "edgy" things up, throws in some fun and engaging narrative stuff, and is overall a solid, fun, thoroughly likeable series.
And it's also clear that it'd translate pretty damn smoothly into a live-action dramedy series. ...juuuust saying.

And casting has begun!! Disney kid Cole Sprouse has been cast as Jughead! Lili Reinhart has been cast as Betty. Wonder if Dylan will show up in the show? It be like "Hey this is my identical cousin...."
And the info from the casting calls is still legit it seems as Jughead and Archie had a falling out. :/ http://comicbook.com/2016/02/09/rive...ead-and-betty/

WTH?! Archie's not a red head?!?!? Josie of Josie and the Pussycats is black? Will Valerie now be played by a white girl?
New Zealand actor KJ Apa has been cast as Archie: Ashleigh Murray has been cast as Josie: http://deadline.com/2016/02/riverdal...ot-1201708847/ Edit: I just remembered Christopher Rich didn't have red hair when he played Archie in 1990 in FOX's attempt at a live action Archie series with Return to Riverdale. Meh. :/

You can get away with casting against a character's appearance a lot of the time, but not Archie. The way he looks is as much a part of his character as his personality. Josie, not so much, but casting that guy as Archie is like casting a dog as Garfield.

Camila Mendes (this is her first role like ever) has been cast as Veronica
And Madelaine Petsch has been cast as the Biatch Cheryl Blossom. Nobody will be playing her twin brother, Jason, tho as apparantly he died "in a mysterious accident" WTF?! Also apparantly it's been picked up for series so we'll definatly be seeing this in the fall. http://deadline.com/2016/02/riverdal...cw-1201710249/ http://www.comicbookresources.com/ar...cheryl-blossom
