Ranking the Spider-Man Films

Okay, so I've seen various lists appear on different websites since The Amazing Spider-Man 2's release and it got me thinking. How would you guys rank these movies?

For me, it goes like this:

5. Spider-Man 3
4. The Amazing Spider-Man
3. Spider-Man
2. Spider-Man 2
1. The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Though I feel we still haven't had the quintessential Spider-Man film yet, I think it's quite impressive that despite their flaws, Spider-Man hasn't really had a terrible movie. Even in Spider-Man 3 levels of bad, it has still been watchable, even enjoyable.

I agree that there has not been a bad Spider-Man film. I do not think the second film series is as good and would have preferred Raimi to give us a fourth film personally. I think its the strength of the Peter Parker character and the different elements that it brings to the stories that keeps us from ever getting a truely underwhelming movie.

They're all objectivly terrible movies with some bright spots, I used to love Spider-Man 2, but on reflection it's got some of the most unlikeable interpretations of the characters I've ever seen put to screen, the campy humor has also dated very badly.

ASM II is the best of the bunch, but only by a very thin marjin. I'm probably going to hate it in a few more years like the rest of them. Marvel movies rarely hold up over time, they're very "in the moment" flicks that you give an easier time to when they're released and just want a fun but dumb bit of escapism to wind down to.

Haven't seen the Amazing reboot.

And none of them can hold a candle to Spectacular.

Honorable Mention: The Spectacular Spider-Man
4) The Amazing Spider-Man
3) Spider-Man 3
2) Spider-Man
1) Spider-Man 2

Yeah, I did it. I put Spider-Man 3 above Amazing, because ASM got everything wrong about Peter Parker. They turned Peter from a nerdy, quiet kid who went out of his way to keep to himself into a hipster who @$^&ing rode around school on a goddamn skateboard.

Also, the plot was pretty bad too (what would Lizard have achieved by turning everyone in NYC into a lizard? The formula lasts only like 30 minutes anyway).

While Spidey 3 wasn't awesome, it was very good at telling Sandman's story, and I was glad that they were able to change Uncle Ben's death story while still making Ben's death Peter's fault entirely. Spider-Man 3 just bit off more than it could chew, and juggling three villains in one movie isn't for the faint of heart.

A lot of Amazing Spider Man fans around here eh? Guess I'm one of the few who prefers the original films compared to the new ones.

I really felt like Amazing Spiderman was the best portrayal of SPIDEY though. I mean Garfield is WAY more sarcastic and wise cracking than Toby Maguire. The thing I criticize most about the Lizard is the design of his face. I also wish he had worn the labcoat more. I actually DIDN'T like the way spidey 3 portrayed Sandman because it made it out that he killed Uncle Ben and when they start messing with the actual comic mythology I get really irritated about that. Burton's Batman did the same thing with his Joker being the killer of Thomas and Martha. Although I can't really say I'm surprised that Marvel allowed that decision in Spidey 3 given that Joey Q has been destroying the Marvel universe and ESPECIALLY Spiderman for years now. Man I can't stand that guy!

Switch around Spider-Man and S-M 3, and I agree fully. I do think Raimi's #2 was the best of them all so far. Haven't seen ASM 2 yet, but it HAS to be better than the most recent film! And I agree with whomever said that Garfield was a terrible Peter. He might have gotten the banter of Spidey down, but the rest? Ugh.
