TMNT The Last Ronin #2 is IDW's highest-printed single issue ever

https://www.idwpublishing.com/teenag...rint-run-ever/

Quote:
Building on the success of its highly-anticipated first issue, IDW proudly announces that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin #2 has achieved an astounding new milestone: the largest print run for a single comic book in the company’s 22-year history, with over 130,000 copies printed!

“The surprising sales numbers for issue one blew our minds… but then, issue two was like throwing gasoline on a fire. I can’t thank all our fans and retailers enough for all the love and support!” says Kevin Eastman, co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and main creative force behind The Last Ronin. “The whole team set out to create something extra special with this series, and the fan reaction has made us even more committed to ensuring that The Last Ronin is not only everything you were hoping for in a tough-as-nails TMNT story, but worth the wait! We are chest deep in the next issue and can’t wait for your thoughts when it hits the streets.”

“The interest in this series is a wonderful testament to all the hard work that the creative team is putting into the series. Everyone is working at the peak of their abilities and have hit a great stride. Issue #2, which features several crucial flashbacks, is a perfect showcase of the creators’ work melding together in a truly memorable way,” says Group Editor Bobby Curnow.

A heck of a milestone for IDW that really illustrates the hype for this miniseries. My only question is, is this the highest printed TMNT single issue ever? I want to say the original Mirage series peaked somewhere around 130,000.

The Archie series probably peaked way higher than that.

The interest in The last Ronin has nothing to do with what the creative team is doing. Even before we actually saw a single panel of the series, we were overwhelmed by tons of "this is a new Laird/Eastman Turtles story after decades" articles. That served as the biggest ad campain Turtles ever had in years. This and the fact that people out there are hungry for old school/Mirage Turtles, that's where the interest is coming from. The creative team is probably doing great but that's not what started the interest in the first place.

I was pretty skeptical about the hype but I have been getting pretty excited for anything IDW. I am glad they are doing very well with this release.

More of This, less Zootopia Fanfic.

To be fair different time. Like if you compare Archie Sonic to IDW sonic I think there is a huge difference. I don’t know if it’s still relevant, but Archie as a company has a large hand in the grocery stores which has a much broader reach than just specialty shops like comic book stores.

Great to hear, I'd always hoped over the years that people still remembered how good and "different" classic-style Turtles comics could be, and I hope this sends a clear message to the powers that be that this is the vein to tap. Now I just need Laird to get hyped to work on concluding Vol. 4.

This is very good news especially coupled with what Tom mentioned about the success of Issue 1 and it "creating huge ripples for future of the brand"

Hey, I just noticed something:

Was this a foreshadowing of Raph’s fate?

Could well be, seeing as how Kevin Eastman was a big fan of the 2012 series.

Not only do I have a DeviantArt account, but it houses my mammoth 300+ pages fan comic "the full 80%" which is in the 2012 series canon.

But to save you the hassle from looking it up, just go here.
