I didn’t like Rose simply because she was fat. Fat people are only good as comedy relief characters in movies and TV shows, not as plot centric characters

Why just movies and TV? I don't see any reason why that logic shouldn't be applied in real life as well.
I mean it kind of already is, but I'm fine if someone wants to make it an actual Rule.

I never paid attention to her stomach. She is the driving point of a part of a plot that went nowhere full of plot convinces, no Lando, and expanding the force to anyone. I thought of her as the face of poor plotting.

"...The chubby face of poor plotting."
I knowwwww, I know. But if the world starts accepting tubby people, I'll be out of a job. I'm a huge fan of eating and paying my bills. Well, not so much that part, but apparently it's a rule. Anyway, the point is, I have a vested interest in fat-shaming, and furthermore, I'm simply not a very nice person in general. ... She's actually not even that fat, but I'll take what I can get. And when your co-star is Laura Dern you're pretty much "The Husky One" by default. Seriously, is Laura Dern okay? She's been looking positively Anorexic, lately.

Fat characters only really work in comedic roles in films. Like when Jonah Hill was fat, everyone loved him not just because he’s a good actor but he was funny because he was fat. Or like Fat Albert. Or the fat guy in Jurassic Park 1 who gets shot black tar in his face and then is eaten in the Jeep and it was funny because he was so fat and he was being eaten by a dinosaur.
People like Homer Simpson because he’s fat and stupid. If Homer was thin his character would not have been such a hit. So in this case having a chubby Rose in a major role in Star Wars where she wasn’t comedy relief, she just came across as a pointless or bad character. I only want to watch fat actors if they make me laugh. That is why they are there. |

Well this is kind of cool... Wedge is back. The actor reconsidered.

Hope that the only one aside from Luke to survive each mission will not only be back so he can get blown up.

It has to be something substantial since he was offered to reprise the part in TFA but turned it down.

I imagine a rather small part, probably not much more than flying his X-Wing around in the finale similar to Episode 6, hell I wouldn't be surprised if they pair him with Lando again as another nostalgia bomb to the original trilogy.

If I had to speculate, in TFA they probably wanted him to hop back in an X-Wing cockpit again so he said no. In this one they probably offered to have him be a General or something, with more to do/say than just making faces in a cockpit.

Laura Dern? You mean the same character who refused to tell her own crew her secret plan even under threat of mutiny and whose said plan ended up getting like 95% of the Rebellion killed. She wasn't a complete idiot?

She definitely was, but the movie still tried really hard to frame her as a hero regardless. And at least she got to go out in a heroic (and nonsensical) blaze of glory.
Rose just showed up annoying, stayed annoying, and screwed the pooch at the very end. Remove her from the plot entirely, all that's different is the movie is about 8 minutes shorter. Point taken, though. Laura Dern was indeed a total moron, but at least the movie tried to trick you into thinking otherwise. And at least she pretty much won back all the goodwill with Twin Peaks, so there's that.

Rose was annoying character whose sole purpose was to spread "woke" propaganda about "capitalism is bad" (never mind that she is a part of a multi-billion franchise, which is maintained solely to make as much money as possible).
Ultimately she had no point in this movie, though my biggest gripe with her is that she saved Finn from sacrificing himself, which robed him from only meaningful thing he could do in TLJ. And her following monologue about "love" was cringeworthy. Admiral Holdo was an idiot for letting Poe do whatever he wanted to do after his actions which led to the death of the most of Rebellion. Any normal general would had court marshaled son of a bitch right here, right now, tossing his worthless body into space. But nope, she kept him around. To be honest, Leia and Holdo insistence on keeping Poe around made me think that they wanted piece of his ass, rather than any strategic importance. But that's maybe just me seeing ****, when there's none. |

No, no, I agree. That whole "I like him, too" bit made it seem like they were mooning over him.
Aside from that, I've said the exact same things you've stated above, many times. We're on the exact same wavelength, here, almost word-for-word. God, I hate that movie. I actually don't "hate" too many movies, and I see a lot of them; I'm way more forgiving than most, I just don't have a problem pointing out flaws as I see them. But man, outside of the music and the cinematography, that movie's a goddamn pile. And I almost never come down on anything so harshly. But I hated that movie. It's a very pretty piece of sh*t. But, as Richard Pryor infamously said about Superman III: "Hey, for a piece of sh*t, it smells great!"
