Makes perfect sense to me. Cinematic universes and sequel/reboots are much easier to pitch in Hollywood these days, as opposed to original standalone stories.

Your original screenplay isn't catching attention? Rebrand it to marginally align with an established property and BOOM. The odds increase in your favor. It's a smart business strategy, while the bubble lasts.

Totally understand that. That's what the writer or director of God Particle said a while back when it was announced this would be a Cloverfield movie. I just think that if you're changing these movies in a way to tie into that universe then it needs to be logical and substantial. Otherwise these are just anthologies in the same vein as Black Mirror on Netflix.

And apparently this latest delay is because of some new JJ-led reshoots.

That would require creativity, and I don't really think there's much creativity into shoehorning in Cloverfield easter eggs just to get an original movie to production. But I get ya.

Adding in connective cinematic universe tissue, no doubt.

Interesting. That kinda answers the question I had about why JJ wasn't attached to direct anything after TFA had been out for nearly 2 years (before he committed to IX).

New rumor that the title has been changed to Cloverfield Station.

The last movie was fantastic and it barely has anything to do with aliens till the last 10 minutes. John Goodman was frightening in the movie.

I need to re-watch Cloverfield, I remember being so hyped for it and while not as awesome as I thought it would be it was still awesome.

Haven't seen Cloverfield Lane but the trailers looked amazing, need to watch it.

Curious for this new movie and even if super small references I'd love to see this Cloverfield universe keep building.

So basically that's gonna be the name of the Space Station.

10 Cloverfield Lane was the address in the last movie.

Netflix is going to release a trailer for this during the Super Bowl (probably). I guess the deal with Paramount went through and Netflix got the rights to the movie.

Same here. I don't like the precedent Paramount is setting by selling off their movies (this and Annihilation) to Netflix because they're suddenly worried about their box office performance at the last minute.

I don't understand that either because those Cloverfield movies make a ton of money at the box office. Maybe they know something about God Particle that is making them concerned. so they are giving it to Netflix.

Plus it's kind of voluntarily down-shifting the franchise. Now in the public's mind "Cloverfield" will have become a direct-to-video thing.

Though it's true... it has been pushed way back a few times now and there's been a lot of reshoot. Could be that yeah, it didn't test well at all. Or maybe they're quietly removing the Cloverfield ties in the Netflix shuffle to avoid damaging the brand.

What cloverfield brand? It's as niche as it gets, there's a reason there wasn't a "sequel" for many years.

This would be pretty crazy.

EXCLUSIVE: We already told you that Paramount/Bad Robot’s Cloverfield sequel was getting acquired by Netflix, and that a Super Bowl spot is expected to air during the Big Game, however, we’re now hearing that the J.J. Abrams produced movie will be available to stream immediately following the end of the Big Game. A TV spot for the film is scheduled to drop around the end of the first quarter and inform fans about the pic’s availability tonight.

Yep it's available tonight. Titled The Cloverfield Paradox and it actually looks like this will have a legit connection to the original.
