If it was a sitcom?
So considering how Nickelodeon initially wanted a sitcom and Rise may very well end up being that, how do you think the show would have turned out if it ended up being one? Better? Worse? Not that different?

It would be something different and new for TMNT.

I think it would've been worse since they woudlnt have been able to tell a serialized story in the Nick show if it was an episodic sitcom.

I honestly think a sitcom wouldn't fit the TMNT style at all. If they did this, I definitely would never watch it.

It wouldn't be doing the franchise any favors, that's for sure.

It would surely be a disgrace to the franchise.

Of all three cartoon incarnations, I like the 2003 series best over all because, in part, of the darker tone of it, but I think the 2012 series definitely had the edge with the right balance of comedy and drama. They weren't afraid to let tragedy into the series, and then in the next breath have Mikey or one of the Foot mutants do something ridiculous - and it worked well, too (for the most part). I would prefer that Nick stayed far away from making a whole sitcom series. I think it would discredit the brand some, IMO.

I wouldn't mind if Rise looked like the first short to be honest. It's cartoonish without being too silly or chibi looking.

I'm more of a fan of "Don vs Raph." I loved Invader Zim so the writing and art direction were perfect for me. I think the Workaholics guys, being TMNT fans themselves, made for a good cast, too.

couch
The original series sometimes make me think of sitcoms, probably because of the couch.

Objectively, I think it could work, but personally I think it's a shame because I want TMNT to be taken more seriously. I want the plotlines to be more emotionally intense, really character focused and serious.
However, I know there has been some good comedy with the turtles, I just would prefer it to be a little injection in an otherwise serious storyline. |
