The film is going to be directed by Joachim Ronning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) and filming will take place in London from April to August 2018.

I thought this was quietly cancelled.

I love the visuals but it's kinda bland that Maleficent is a good guy now. Cruella is next.

I'm all for stories from a villain's perspective, but fvck this retelling of Maleficient.

We'll see how they handle Cruella, but given how Maleficent was done, I'm a little wary.

Filming has begun on the sequel and the full cast has been announced.

Michelle Pfeiffer has also officially signed on to the project as Queen Ingrith, while Harris Dickinson will play Prince Phillip. Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ed Skrein, and Robert Lindsay are also joining the cast, with Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, and Lesley Manville returning.

I’m not even a big fan of Maleficent storyline, but I gotta admit the cast is cute.

Disney has scheduled the film for release on May 29, 2020, which is the weekend after Memorial Day. That is exactly when the original film hit theaters back in 2014.

I'd so much more prefer Maleficent 2 just be a proper remake of Disney's Sleeping Beauty as a yet another retelling of the "same" story, make it like 2002 Hero just sequels instead of within the same movie.
