Mirage April O'Neil's hair color
I'm curious the consensus. For you, does Mirage April O'Neil have brown hair, red (or reddish) hair, or black hair?

She DOES appear to have black hair throughout Vol. 2. So there's that.
In the final coloring of "Origin" it has been brownish... but I'm wondering if it should actually be that at all.

In both the Mirage comics and the Fred Wolf carton, I think a light brownish tint is the best way to go with the hair. I attribute the black appearance of the Volume 1 Mirage run to be the result of how a perm makes hair color appear darker. Inconsistent color palettes in the Fred Wolf toon slowly led to the assumption that April was a redhead.

I had to check the colored versions I have.
In the Works coloring she has brown hair, which mostly includes the black ink from the originals, making her hair look black/brown or dark brown. Classics alternates between the black/brown thing and straight up black. So I guess that she has brownish black hair if we're going by IDW's reprints? I mostly just read the BW reprints, so to me her hair is basically just black. |

I choose brown because I think she looks the prettiest in that.

I dunno, man. Mirage is black and white, but I recall her hair looking brown/dark brown on the coloured covers, so I'm going with brown.
Funny how April started out as a dark browned woman that ended up becoming a ginger in later incarnations. Although even in the FW series she wasn't straight up ginger, but more like reddish brown. In the 2k3 series however, she was a total carrot top. Not that it matters whether her hair is brown or red in different versions, but I wonder why animators decided to change her hair colour throughout history? |

Mirage April perms her hair, or at least used to in the 80's and 90's. We first saw her with the Farrah/Turner haistyle, and after she stated to have it curly. So, black, brown or auburn is fine cause she probably colors it as well (so she could be naturally mousegrey).
and even then, it was a unatural red/magenta color. It wasn't until the 2012 show April was a real ginger. |

I read it as brown in her first appearance, but black after that with hints of reddish-brown for highlight purposes.
