I admit it's a fairly well-crafted statement, if you're inclined to buy it. It's a typically narcissistic "I'm trying to sound sincere but still think I can get away with it" non-apology, which only confirms he hasn't learned much here. But let's be real -- he's been confronted with this several times in the past, for years now, so nobody should buy the idea that he's just NOW realizing the scope of what he did. I want to hope the rest of his statement is true, that he's legitimately remorseful and wants to change, but I don't buy for one second that he didn't realize the impact of his actions long before now, and he's actively dismissed and avoided dealing with it until he had no choice. So to hell with him.

It sucks, I'd been a pretty big fan both of his work and other comics' work that he's promoted and helped release, so it's massively disappointing to see who he really is. All of his current projects have fallen apart over this already. If his career's over, he deserves it.

The thing about apologies is you can never do enough, people will always criticize whether you own it or not, no matter how you choose your words people will flip them. It seems the best way to handle the situation is to not say anything about it.

Yeah, Ratner doesn't surprise me. Actually, half of the people drug forward are about who we expected. Singer's had allegations shadowing him for a while before it finally blew up. Louis C.K. surprised some people, but there were rumors and anecdotes floating around for a while, the people he harassed just didn't want to go on the record for the usual reasons.

I didn't expect Kevin Spacey, though, but there may have been rumblings about his behavior I just hadn't heard about for whatever reason.

That's because there's no way to apologize at this point. He's spent years dodging these questions and actively trying to cover them up with the help of his manager. His "apology" rings totally hollow because his actions prove what his real priorities are: to protect himself and let his victims live with the consequences of his actions.

If he meant what he said, he would have said it years ago when the questions started. That says it all.

I wish this was a rule of thumb for every situation. These days, media report of allegation equates to fact of public opinion.

I can see both sides of this story being true.
The man in question feeling victimized, while George believing he had consent.

Consent should be something that's relatively clear cut and well defined in theory, but in practice it's far less so.

That's one of the reasons I'm a big fan and supporter of the whole Yes means Yes movement. (ie: that the default answer to an unanswered question is No.)
