Jim Lawson's TMNT #33 "What if?" Cover
Lawson just posted this commission he did on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/15549505787...29349063827158), pitch was "if issue 33 came out, what would a possible cover look like."
Fun idea for a commission. Not sure what clues if any it gives to the remaining untold story, but thought I'd share. Perhaps even more noteworthy is Lawson mentioning "I got a freelance job recently that involved TMNT volume 4" in the post. Is this your Origin project, Andrew, or something else that hasn't been officially announced yet?? |

Just saw this and was thinking of making a thread for it, so thanks for being pro-active!
I'm so glad someone had the vision to commission this, and that Jim was so happy to oblige! Really gets the imaginative juices flowing!

There may be talks of this or that. But nothing firm yet. And I think it's still way too early to give up on PL.

Yeah, it was released in print officially a couple years ago at this point.

I always thought there was some kind of irony of Don wearing a robot Turtle suit in late Volume 4 after Image turned him into a cyborg and PL complained about that, and then after we had Don/Metalhead for a while in IDW.

! ? ! ? ! ? On this most recent one Jim stated he was merely having fun. I don't think PL is involved. He did say he had stories in mind for these covers but didn't want to share them. Maybe that suggests something is in the works but I doubt it. |

I'll take TwoFace Raph and Cyborg Don over Gameraph and MicroDon any day. But I think Volume 4 had a much better storyline for Donatello, the shrinking stuff notwithstanding.

My favorite stuff from both volumes is with Michelangelo, on very different levels.

The problem is you can't take any of the changes made to the Turtles too seriously because you know they'll go back to normal after a while. Same with the whole Dark Leo and Metalhead Don in IDW. Only difference is in Vol. 4 it went on through most of the run of the book. Hell Raphael was Gamera Raph for more issues than Don was a cyborg in Image.
Imagine being a Raph fan and reading the only current Mirage comic and he's a dinosaur from like issue 14 or whatever it was to 32+. |

Peter Laird is simply the kind of person who'd insist that his Bad Ideas are automatically superior to other people's Bad Ideas, simply because he created the characters.
He's not altogether wrong, but his ideas were still... not very good. I think Vol. 4 and Vol. 3 were equally Not All That Good from completely different directions.
