Russian reprints of Volume 4?

https://www.facebook.com/15549505787...type=3&theater

Saw this on Jim Lawson's Facebook... that is a sweet cover! I might have to acquire this, even if it is all in Russian...

Interesting. IDW will probably do their own Vol. 4 collections after Image is fully collected.

Mark Martin did a cover for one of the Russian reprint collections a while back, they've got some really cool ones. I love how he emulated the different artists styles & stuff to properly reflect the content within.

By then PL will be 67...enough time to find out if he'll ever finish the series.

Yes, I grabbed a piece of that original cover art, just haven't gotten around to scanning it yet for CAF etc.

Arseniy's/Illusion's reprint collections for the Russian market are always impressive. It shows how much better these collections are when their production is directed by a fan who genuinely has passion for the material and its curation, rather than a company whose trade paperback division just takes the cataloged files and crams them between some cardstock.

Man, no kidding... it's enough to make a man learn Russian!

I didn't even know there was that big a TMNT fanbase in Russia, especially for the comics in general.

I thought I seen a photo on the internet maybe a year ago of Kevin at a comic convention in Russia. Can’t remember for certain.

But I found this

And this by Dan Duncan for a Calendar

And this about the comic publisher in Russia
http://turtlepedia.wikia.com/wiki/Komilfo
“Publishing House Komilfo (rus. Издательский Дом Комильфо [Izdatelsky Dom Komilfo]) - publisher in Russia, which publishes IDW comic books about The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.“

So yeah like it was said TMNT is Big in Russia.

It's funny; in that old Comics Journal interview Eastman did, Eastman talks about what he and Laird had to go through to originally get TMNT products distributed in the Soviet Union. They essentially had to make deals with what they knew were the Russian mafia at the time and it made them extremely nervous.

But I'm assuming Arseniy is totally legit, of course.

Yes, Kevin Eastman and Jim Lawson were special guests on Big Festival'2016 in St. Petersburg last spring.

Spoiler:

In Russia 2 publishers release TMNT comics - Illusion (publishes Mirage) and Komilfo (publishes IDW). Legally, of course!

Some photos from my collection:

Illusion:

Komilfo:
Spoiler:

You can see all the photos of my collection (Illusion, Komilfo and other) here. Sorry, the first post is now under construction, but you can find many photos on other pages.

So how does the company get the rights to publish TMNT comics in Russian? They make a deal with Nick/IDW?

I imagine the same way it works with every other country and property?

It really is a shame that the turtlemania.ru site is no more. That was a great research. I hope Arseniy is still lurking on these boards, and that he may one day bring back his website.

It looks like Illusion reprinted Don Simpson's Alternative Turtles short stories. That's funny, because Don claims to still have the rights to those stories. I think someone to call their lawyer.

That was the thing that always mystified me about the turn the franchise took when Eastman and Laird licensed the cartoon and the parallel comic book published by the same outfit that gave us Archie. The turtles' original origin story? The whole thing hinges on a for-Christ's-sake rape-murder!!!!
from here.
