I wanted to find out more information on the series and instead this thread turns into an Anime forums with guy's wanting to see more fan service

I'm not a big Super Girl fan, was really surprised that she's getting her own show. How popular is she in the DC Fandom?

It's just with such great live action versions of Green Arrow and The Flash, I just can't see myself liking new versions of those characters and being happy, since they have pretty big shoes to fill. The "Bat embargo" the animated shows had in the early 2000's makes plenty of sense for live action in a post-avengers world. Gotham being a prequel and Batman being old in the new continuity means there won't be many problems but this would have to take place after Man of Steel. A Supergirl show would be awesome but if it's a Smallville esque show then I wouldn't be a fan since that's already been done.

She's pretty much one of the most iconic female superheroes in the DC universe, up there with Wonder Woman and Batgirl (Barbara Gordon).

Looks like this'll be on CBS. Comic books have gotten all the major networks now.

Character descriptions are now out for 2 characters:

Kara's surname is Danvers (Linda as a first name??):
Quote:
She’ll be 24 years old on the show, and they’re casting 22 to 26 year-old caucasian women. The Danvers family “taught her to be careful with her extraordinary powers,” according to the casting notice, and after repressing them for half her life she is, according to TVLine, “forced to bust out her super moves in public during an unexpected disaster.” That causes her to decide to start superheroing on a regular basis.
Also to be cast is an adopted older sister named Alexandra Danvers, age 26.
Quote:
Described as “gorgeous, brilliant,” and “science-minded.” Alex studies all she can about Kara and her alien origins and in the show “works for a secret government organization.”

Hm.

My favorite Supergirl was the one from Peter David's run, so they could do worse than borrowing from that one. That was one of the most criminally underrated books of the last 20 years. Supergirl really hasn't been done very well ever since they fell back on the tried and true "Kara Zor-El" model and decided to "modernize" it by making her completely whiny, bitchy, and unlikable, which for some reason, going on about ten years later, has stuck.

I'm a big fan of the character but haven't seen much I like with the character since David's version was cancelled. If this new show borrows from and condenses parts from some of the different versions, I might be able to get into that.

We shall see.

Danvers so there going to try keep Superman out for awhile by mixing in some of the Linda Danvers stuff with Kara ok I can see that. Also way to give marvel the big middle finger in using the name Danvers first before Captain Marvel comes out. I mean lets face it that's the reason they named her Danvers they easily could have used the name Starr and had the older sister be Karen. Actually I kinda wished they did that would have been awesome to get a live action Power Girl.

More casting call info! Looks like they don't care what Jimmy Olsen looks like as he and Cat Grant are "Open ethnicity". And OF COURSE Toy Man lives next door!

Quote:
CAT GRANT | The project is eyeing females in their 40s, open ethnicity, to play the founder of CatCo, a media conglomerate that Cat built from the ground up. Kara (Supergirl’s mild-mannered alter ego) will work as a personal assistant to Cat, who is described as “J.Lo by way of Anna Wintour.”

JAMES OLSEN | In his late 20s/early 30s, open ethnicity, James is a smart, worldly and (duh) attractive photographer for CatCo. Though an alpha male, his salt-of-the-earth nature elicits a huge ol’ crush from Kara.

WINSLOW ‘WYNN’ SCHOTT | This twentysomething tech whiz/Comic-Con stalwart toils for CatCo as a programmer, unaware of his own (toying?) potential. Unware of her secret, he carries a torch for Kara, whom he lives next door to.

HANK HENSHAW | As an upstart CIA agent, Hank grew obsessed with intergalactic intel. Now in his 40s and lording over the DEO (Department of Extra-Normal Operations), he is on high alert when Supergirl reveals herself, worried that her otherworldly abilities pose a threat to humankind.

And with the LA Teen Titans airing on a sister station of CW Network... crossovers ahoy!

Well if anything Melissa could sing the show's theme song. She's a good actress and from her experience in Glee she certainly knows how to play an outcast.
