Nah...then the show and comic wouldn't be named Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

To be fair IDW changed a lot about the origin too, but it was well written enough for it to be understandable. My only gripe is the Turtles quick mutation in 15 months, but that's about it.

And its really not all that different than the past. Splinter and Hamato Yoshi being one and the same, Shredder being from feudal Japan (like the 4kids series), etc.

Raph not growing up with his brothers is a big thing though, but then again these Turtles were only mutated for 15 months.

I really hate to defend Bay and trust me as someone who hates the Transformers movies I'd rather not. But I think your taking the word alien way too literally. When you get right down to it the turtles are an alien species. Remember alien doesn't always refer to something extraterrestrial. One definition is "unlike one's own; strange; not belonging to one." Sounds like the turtles to me.

Of course he could also be as ignorant to TMNT as he is to Transformers. But I wouldn't read too much from an out of context 15 second clip of Bay.

Mutants can't be from an alien race. That's a fictional impossibility.

I'm kind of with Slash at the moment.

a·li·en/ˈālyən/

noun
1. a resident born in or belonging to another country who has not acquired citizenship by naturalization ( distinguished from citizen).
2. a foreigner.
3. a person who has been estranged or excluded.
4. a creature from outer space; extraterrestrial.

Synonyms:
adjective. foreign - strange - extraneous - outlandish
noun. foreigner - stranger - outlander

So given those definitions it is hard to figure out exactly what Bay was talking about. Given Bay's history for not giving a crud about fans though I could see the later. But as also has been said he is only producing so he has very little to do with the actual project.

Does anyone have the rest of the video? Perhaps that would clear things up.

I do see what you’re saying, but that other blurb I posted in the other thread says that “Another tidbit he offered up is that the Turtles origin story has been updated, from the decidedly 80s radioactive waste accident to an alien planet.” So alien planet this time gets mentioned. I think it’s pretty safe to assume that aliens, at least in some shape or form, are going to play a part.

Taken from this site, BTW: http://blog.viacom.com/2012/03/scene...odeon-upfront/

I second this. There's obviously plenty more to that panel. I've been looking on Youtube, but no luck.

I think that is just the bloggers take on what the clip showed. There is no context, no video, no transcript that says those words. It is a blogger writing down their take on what went on. Until more comes out it's just people going pell mell over some brief open ended wording.

didn't get to read the idw comics yet but dose 15 months mean they were already teenagers, or they became young mutants over 15 months, cause i always thought their mutation was quick.

But the blogger said alien planet, which means that the word planet was mentioned. The blogger was obviously there. The site is the offical Viacom blog.

Look on the bright side guys. At least it'll make TMNT 3 look like a masterpiece.

I just heard this...I really, REALLY hate Michael Bay. Please, someone, stop that man. This comment just smacks so very much of the usual Hollywood dreck. It's even got the favorite buzzword of the empty suits, "edgy!"

Not necessarily. They might be remembering it wrong. Like how people remember "Beam me up, Scotty" when those exact words were never said in Start Trek. For him alien race translates to alien planet.

Doesn't he also say the film is called Ninja Turtles? I'm pretty sure that Michael Bay is just calling them Ninja Turtles rather than that being the title of the film. Brad Fuller has been calling it Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or TMNT whenever he mentions it.

EDIT: Yeah, the blogger even calls the new show just "TMNT" when we know the title is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

If he says they are from an alien planet then it's true. That's not something that would be made up out of the blue.

I'd say it's time to start preparing for the worst case scenario.

It's all a bunch of hear-say right now. However it does seem strange that the blogger would mention that point specifically if it wasn't said by Bay.

I'm not opposed to this alien planet thing as long as it somehow is tied to the Triceratons, Fugitoid, etc...I guess if it's written right and believable I'll get over it...but that depends on how much they are changing and how they write it...

This origin point coulda been what had Eastman not so sure about.
