I was genuinely surprised that these existed: I assumed Playmates lost the license after Rise ended. They seem to have moved on to other brands, usually flashes in the pan, after the end of Rise.

Playmates re-released the Original Comic Book from 2014 for the Walmart Exclusive Original Comic Book Action Figures Limited Edition Bundle Pack. I think the 2020s will be the time where Playmates brings back many figures from the 2010s. The 2012 Classic Collection Michelangelo was exquisite the way it was (I would change the belt buckle though). It reminded me of the turtles from the openings to both the 1987 miniseries and 1988 syndicated series. These repaints of the Classic Collection turtles are awful and unnecessary.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to Playmates regrouping and working on some new TMNT toys in the future. Hopefully soon with the new movie coming. |

Can't believe there are people that actually like these.
That toyhypeusa video above is one of them but look at this guy, he even goes as far as to say these are better than Neca's. |

They missed out by not doing these with vintage toy heads and black versions of the toon belts in toy decos. They'd come close to S7 at half the price if they did that.

Well these molds were very well liked and considered the best TMNT toys by a lot of the fandom and toy enthusiasts when they came out. Sure we got better figures since then but it's like these were always horrible. Perhaps the guy just got some bad NECA products as well or is still impressed at the articulated fingers that other turtle figures sill don't have to this day.

I mean, it is a better "toy". You can play with it and pose it around without fear of it breaking.

This would probably cost about the same too.

I actually like the BW versions.
Makes a nice companion to the NECA set from years ago. |

Those B/W figures have awful shadings. Look at those weird black triangles on the plastron!

I just had a thought. If Playmates really wanted to re-use sculpts, I think they should have chosen their movie "collector's" figures instead of the toon ones. You wouldn't get the weird/ugly knots on the belts over where the buckles used to be and the overall style would be very reminiscent of what the TMNT looked like after the first few issues. We don't really get much merch of them from those later issues as much as the earlier ones, too. The most glaring issues these figures have are the crooked eyes, which wouldn't be an issue without pupils, anyway.
