If you think about it
Space Heroes was Leo's show, which the other Turtles were occasionally shown watching. Super Hyper Robo Mecha Force is Mikey's show which all the Turtles are shown to enjoy. So if this is a pattern then the next one would be something either Donnie or Raph enjoy. However it's something no one but said Turtle likes and watches kinda like a guilty pleasure kind a thing. Or it's something they all enjoy as a family without convincing. |

I love both. Hopefully Season 3 will have an OT Turtles like parody show.

Smurfs would be funny, so would Thundarr the Barbarian, Blackstar, or even Danger Mouse.

Thanks for completely failing to explain it. "This mock anime is funny because I laugh at it." Why do you laugh at it? What is the joke there?

What is going to be the new show Leo will watch for season 3? Maybe the A-Team? (I'd love it if Leo did spout out "I love it when a plan comes together!".

The inclusion of those shows are the joke itself. Besides, a joke is not necessary for something to be considered funny. Have you watched shows like America's Funniest Videos before? It's basically a compilation of videos of people getting hurt or embarrassed yet that show is supposed to be funny. Try to remember what's the funniest thing that happened in your life, I bet it's not about someone telling some funny joke.

You're taking my use of the word "joke" a bit too literally. I should have said "humor element". America's Home Videos isn't a good comparison to that in-universe anime, because it includes slapstick; a common humor element. I could buy into SRMFF's source of humor being that it's a bad dub, except that I don't remember it having any issues infamous about bad dubs. A better example is the "Batmanga' segment in that episode of Batman: The Brave and the bold, where Bat-Mite mocks how the dub inserted a "good thing the villains escaped before they died" line; whereas in the original, they'd likely have died. I remember nothing of the sort in SRMFF; there may be semi-awkward use of the English language, but it's nowhere near Zero Wing levels.
With Space Heroes, I acknowledge that the show has an actual joke, because they stuck an antihero where normally a hero would belong. But it's still an extremely limited joke that doesn't justify it being an anvil dropped on kids.

It's alright if you don't find it funny but I think your missing the point here. Those faux shows are the running gag in this series. The way how it reflects what's happenning in the epiosde in a bizarre/exaggerated way is the reason why they are humorous.

I liked both of the spoof tv shows, but the one of Super Robo Mecha Force Five in the episode of "Fungous Humongous" cracked me up the most, between the exaggerated villain's voice talking really fast and then Captain Dash smacking that dude and he goes flying behind him. Just such a perfect parody of some of the over-the-top Japanese animes.

Just remember, every running gag is eventually terrible, even if people liked it at first.

Agreed. When season 2 started and they changed the cartoon I was sort of thinking that they'll wind up watching a new parody 60's / 70's cartoon show each season. I hope they do....
They should parody Super Friends next... |

I would loved a spoof on the turtles themselves. With all the clones like Battle Toads and Street Sharks that was around in the 1990's. I think a spoof on that would be funny.

Too bad they probably won't. At SDCC they mentioned that the next spoof will be based on a fantasy series that started in 1981.

Update: It's a Thundarr/He-Man/Conan parody called "Crognard the Barbarian"!
