2003 Series Art Style

I really like the art style (character design) of the 2003 show. The design of the Turtles also reminds me of Michael Dooney's art. Were the Turtles based on his art style?

Thanks!

Dooney drew the style guide art at the launch of the show, and a lot of the early merchandise art. The actual Turtles in the show don't really follow his model, but he definitely had influence.

Okay, I see. Yes, definitely feels like there is some influence. Thanks.

Dooney provided character design for Next Mutation too, if I'm not wrong. 2003 design was great.

I remember back in the day people used to complain the Turtles looked too blocky or had the same look

It looked like a DCAU type redesign that modernized the turtles, I loved it. Lionsgate loved it so much their DVD releases had the 1987 turtles look like the 2k3 ones.

Keep in mind the Turtles look different in the actual series than all the promo art:

I also remember people complaining they had no pupils in their masks back when the show was airing.

I would love to see an animated show in Peter Laird's style or Eric Talbot's style. That would be awesome. Talbot's style is so unique, it would make the show standout.

Cool thread. I love the art direction of this show as well. They took those square lines that made Batman TAS strong and made them a little more modernized without losing that classic Americana cartoon feel to the animation.

How did you feel about the b&w sequence from Turtles Forever?

The prime Turtles were cool (I especially like the b&w world they lived in) but the design of those Turtles was quite different than the actual comics. It was comics inspired though which was still cool.

This TMNT artstyle heavily conditioned mine, so it's obvious that I'm gonna say it's awesome.
