It's different, but not totally dissimilar to the "Should old people be allowed to drive?" argument.

I mean, they're terrible at it. They're dangerous on the road, while on a copious mixture of who knows what kind of medications, everything from painkillers to meds that treat dementia, and everything in between. If you or I were pulled over with those kinds of "cocktails" in our blood, we'd get slapped with a DUI.

But they've "earned" the right to be a road hazard, by way of having a set number of Birthdays. They're allowed to drive intoxicated, "just because". Nobody denies that it's dangerous, but at the same time, nobody wants to be insensitive.

It's not completely dissimilar from the example Andrew is setting forth regarding veterans. They may be troubled - some more than others - but can we really in good conscience deny them a right that they've literally fought and risked their lives for?

Complicated stuff. For what it's worth, I think if your psychiatric profile is lousy enough, you shouldn't be able to get a gun regardless of who you are and what you've done. BUT, I also agree with those who say that no amount of screening or laws will stop someone who's truly committed to doing what they wanna do.

Anyway, I'd love to know why this jagoff decided that the best response to losing a video game tournament was an outpouring of lethal force. People keep telling me that this generation isn't a bunch of hyper-sensitives who can't handle losing, or any kind of adversity, really... they keep telling me that... but we got one or two guys who go on a rampage because a girl turned them down, then this guy loses his sh*t over video games... I don't know, man. I'm just doing the math.
--------------------

To Duckie's point: No, I definitely don't think that guy should be able to own any guns. I know it varies from state to state, but as far as I know, even I wouldn't be allowed to buy a gun in the state of NJ, on account of I was doing inpatient treatment at one time and also had a TRO against me (which was later dropped). Then again, this state supposedly has the strictest gun laws in the nation. Either way, no, I don't think people with the background your stepdad has should ever be allowed to own a gun. But... Texas, eh?

Texas is known for holding the rights of white male straight gun-owners more sacred than the lives of pretty much anyone and everyone.

We like our reputation, with big ol' belt buckles, cowboy hats, and pickemup trucks. Hell naw we ain't compensatin' for nuthin'.

Yup. Pretty much what CKD said. Which also explains why he is not rotting in prison or six feet under- that particular demographic can get away with a s**tload of crap here that other states would never put up with.

Would I badmouth my own state and its (well-deserving) stereotypes?

How dare you, sir. It's like you don't even know me.

Oh, it sure as hell is. No contest. Mine is just one of those simple latch things, no cow skulls, buckin' broncos, or anything. No wrestling stuff, either.

I usually rock a big ol' Superman shield, but I also have a Legend of Zelda "Winged Triforce" buckle, and a big skull that doubles as a bottle opener.

Classy as f*ck.

Well if you always want to know how to decrease mass shootings and gun homicides then I suggest check them out.

Its not "because we are scared of them now" but because some of them are severely mentally unhealthy. Whether or not they serve in the army is irrelevant because we should't let mentally ill people legally purchase dangerous weapons regardless if they are veterans. But for some reason thats the insane statement.

You don't earn a right, this isn't Starship Troopers where in order to become a citizen you have to serve in the army. The veterans haven't far more earned a right than say teachers or construction workers. Do they deserve compensation or medical care for their service yes but they haven't earned a right more than anybody else who have some sort of occupation.

You're this close to talking me into an Amazon search for Batman, Nightwing, or Robin belt buckles.

It's almost exactly the same thing. The only difference is that owning a gun is a constitutional right and driving is NOT. If anything, there should be clamor for getting old people off the road way before coming after war veterans with PTSD's guns.

Umm there has been clamor for getting old people off the world, hell South Park made an episode about it.

I'm just going to assume that Trey and Matt have driven through East Brunswick in the middle of the day, behind some grandma doing 25 in a 50 and swerving at every bump or manhole cover. Makes sense to me.

Actually they did.
They literally were fighting and risking their lives, while well of-rich kids were "fighting" in Internet for the right to be called "interlinear marsupials" and what not.
