Irma had potenticial I always kind of liked her. At times I liked her sense of humor better than April's since it was dry and at times self deprecating. Plus when she stopped being so damn boy crazy she was easily the snarky secretary almost in the same vein as the orginal Janine Melnitz from the Real Ghostbusters. Watch the France European episode and you'll see some pretty amusing sarcasm from her. it gavr some much needed edge other than her cross-species innuendo. Though that was funyy too!

How many episodes did Irma mutate or get powers? Those were always fun.

It's a hard choice, but I think I identify more with April desperately trying to make it in the professional world.

Never thought I would be wowed by April until I saw NGH1066's April.
As for the topic at hand,Irma was merely a man crazy secretary who gave April a friend at Channel Six. She on occassion would help the TMNT when an extra person is needed instead of Casey Jones,Usagi,Mondo Gecko, or the Punk Frogs. I am not saying I disliked her character it just I feel that she could have been fleshed out more beyond basic usage and traits. If she can be used again in the future I would hope for that. April in the 1987 cartoon does not get the credit she deserves for being well fleshed out characters with more than just basic personality traits. The reason is obiviously the fact she is used as a plot device as a captive of Shredder or fill-in-the-blank. Overlooking that I feel she was a fleshed out character. My question is would her role of a reporter who was the outside link of the TMNT and way to learn of suspicious crimes be obsolete by the information age or could she still be that if used again as a reporter with technology and other ways to learn of the crimes of Shredder or Rat ing or the mob? She began to use the internet to get info for the TMNT as the sky turned red. That was how I actually first heard of the internet.

I've always wondered if they ever considered making that episode Attack of th 50 Foot April.
Probably not, since April would be a recognizable face for New Yorkers, so it would have probably played out a little differently. Then again this is the Fred Wolf cartoon we're talking about, it seemed like just about anything went as far as campiness. |

Rat King
I love when Irma takes care of the Rat King, kicking him on his feet and the bomb goes off. Not even Splinter could do that, because of the flute.
I plan tro write a fanfic where Irma somehow saves the day. |

Channel 6 News building
It's a shame they didn't release the Channel 6 News building as a playset, one of the most recognizeable places in the show (you had the news van).

Girls
They said that, yes. I know a lot of girls who watched TMNT, and I really, really, really hate hearing TMNT being just for boys. While boys liked the TMNT as characters they would play, girls could still look up to their characters. A lot of girls have watched TMNT. Compare it to other action cartoons, like:
*He-Man = Show mosly centered around him (even if Teela actually could fight). Male muscle power did most of the job. *Transformers = Robots associated with cold, mindless and without emotions (even if Transformers used to be AI). But TMNT: *The TMNT work together, not just muscles, but skills, and the characters show a lof of emotions. A lof of TMNT fan fiction is written by girls, maybe usually dealing more with their emotions than kicking Shredder, Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady in the butt for fifty eleventh time, but it's still a part of TMNT. Without April having Irma as a friend, the show would be cold and too un-realistic (she would only be seen working and hanging with the Turtles). And the Archie Comics also developed a tougher April later, trained by Splinter (while 1987 April seemed to have driving skills). I would even accepd Venus more if she didn't use magic. TMNT was always, is and will always be as much for girls. |
