Yeah. Their design choice (the "shadow" shorts) is ... questionable at best.

I wonder why Mr. Suriano made that decision.

Looking at that picture, the Black Shadows are around their Necks and sides (under arms) also.

Either way, I'm sticking with calling them shadow shorts, unless they tweak it so that it falls only where a normal shadow actually might.

By the way, does anyone know why the Turtles' have muscular plastrons?

I can understand them having muscular arms/ legs, but plastrons?! Why did they (the designers) go for that visual aspect?

The 2K3 guys were also drawn with muscular plastron.

Yes, but they were never "emphasized".

I figured "because superheros" (albeit the awkward non-super kids at the hero genre table) and the TMNT have always been easy cheaters for the look of muscular abs and pecs... so, way too temping to play that up.

I don't really mind it done in moderation, esp if it's done with a more mature looking design and looks good that way, but the way they did it for 'Rise' has been reminding me of 2012 Karai's armor, just squarer. Looks less organic than it should.

Has anyone noticed that the Turtles' expressions tend to look ... rather plain and simple?

I mean, look at these!

Spoiler:

They just seem so ... lazy ...

They're basically just scribbles, dots, and lines ...

On the contrary, they look very expressive.

I agree, they are simple (like the whole style of the series), but yet they are still expressive.

Yeah even as a not-fan of the designs yet (though I am warming up), it's plain to see that they're pretty expressive.

That's not even a perception or opinion thing, man.

It may just be me, though.

I mean, they're not inherently awful, or even mediocre. They just look rather ... off-putting. I don't know why, though. Maybe, it's because they're ... somewhat inconsistent and messy.

Like this GIF.

And this GIF.

Spoiler:

Just ... off-putting.

I get what your saying but I think that its more because of their actions in those gifs that make it feel forced rather than their expressions

I like April, Leo, and mikey's designs. I dislike Raph and Donnie, but they are okay. Splinter I'm neither here nor there on. I'm actually happy the four are four different kinds of turtle, and not four red-eared slider clones.

IDW is the best version of TMNT

If they make a TMNT reboot movie retelling the shredder battle/origin, I won't buy a ticket.

I'm fine with Don's design, I don't see a problem with it.

Raphael's size bothers me so much. I don't understand why they needed to make him so big like the bay movies? They couldn't just go the fast forward route with small variances in heights?

AAAAHAhahaha.

Oh god... Even if it ends up being a train wreck, well, at least we'll still get some great screen caps and gifs out of it. For use as reaction images/gifs on here, naturally.

P.S. Raph looks like he was just probed up the backside...with something rather cold. (Mikey also looks like he knows something about this incident.)
