There's still an audience segment that loves Michael Bay, and those people are who he makes movies for. The man's a squillionaire - he's not going away anytime soon, and studios are still going to keep paying him mucho bucks to keep pumping out movies which his fans will throw their dollars at.
Oh, that's all true. I'm not happy about it, but money talks. And considering Paramount keeps letting him pump out awful Transformers movies without stepping in for some quality control, I don't expect much will change on the TMNT front until the money dries up.

That said... Transformers 4's domestic take this year was down lot from the previous movies -- $107m less than TF3 -- and while BayTurtles did well, $191m domestic against a $125m production budget (and an undisclosed marketing budget) isn't exactly record-breaking. It's too soon to call it a trend, but it's possible the shine's coming off the Bay apple stateside.

Overseas, however? He's doing better than ever. It'll be interesting to see how all this plays out next round.

Oh definitely - I'm in total agreement, Bry. I don't understand it, but whatever he's doing, enough people like it that his career isn't going to trend downwards anytime in the foreseeable future.

Studios don't care about quality - they just care about the bucks that he's raking in. Hence why I would be very surprised if Bay weren't handed another 80's franchise in the coming years. By the studios' reasoning, Bay + 80s franchise = money, tickets sold and toy sales.

Yep, as long as the movie gets millions of dollars I don't think the studios care. I saw this coming though I forgot the Razzies

That's why every time anyone mentions stuff like this, or negative critic reviews, fan reviews, whichever, you pop in to say you don't care instead of quietly moving along.

The people who constantly proclaim their lack of caring are the ones who care the most. If you care enough to tell people you don't care, then you care too much.

Just pointing it out for ya, Chief.

I wonder what other 80's franchises there are which they could do?

The three that seem immediately obvious to me are:

Thundercats
Mask
Dino Riders

Probably others but I've got about 2mins until my lunch break finishes!

I can't wait for all the ass shots, explosions, and pee & fart jokes in Michael Bay's Snorks reboot!

EDIT: Oh my god, someone already did it. And it was Dan Schoening, the artist on IDW's Ghostbusters (and TMNT/Ghostbusters)!

Look at gget bright side: there are only so many popular franchises to remake. They started remaking things in what, 1997?

Almost everything since has been a remake or a reboot.
For some reason, no one's gone after Pokemon...I know nothing about it, but wasn't it huge in the 90's?

EDIT:
LOL SON!

TMNT snubbed by the Academy, not nominated for Best Short Live Action...

But Pokemon is still ongoing. The series is still on the air now and there are still games released for the franchise. Kind of hard to reboot or remake something that's still currently being made, and with like most Japanese animated programs, it gets a movie every year. I'm not sure how it is back in the states (movie stuff...I actually saw the first one in theaters back in like 1999 and I know movie 2 was in the movie theaters...I think...). But anyway, the show's been on since 1997 and movies have been put out every year since 1998.

Plus, Pokemon is owned by Nintendo. They don't let anyone get their grubby mitts on their property.

Actually, Sony Pictures got rights to make an animated Super Mario Bros movie from Nintendo.

Well, they've released an absolute ton of anime movies, and I didn't realize the show is still running and has been consistently since 1997 - so that property's obviously doing just fine without Hollywood. The risk couldn't possibly be worth it.

Though, on the topic of Nintendo: I can imagine Legend of Zelda and Pixar-style Mario movies turning out really well if a really talented team put the effort in. Which is a long shot. But there's a ton of potential.

IMO Razzies should be only for the "so awful, it's not even bad enough to be funny." While I'd admit that the Michael Bay movie was below average, it has some redeeming moments and I feel that the Razzies are more for show than purpose, and they choose the noms to draw ratings rather than pick obscure films/actors that few people ever heard of. Did you know that in 2010, Sandra Bullock won a Razzie and an Oscar?

I'm curious as to who will be the voice actor for Megabyte should the reboot of Reboot ever happen since Tony Jay is deceased.
