Suicide Squad 2: Gavin O'Connor in talks to write & direct film

http://comicbook.com/dc/amp/2017/09/...-its-director/

The Accountant director Gavin O'Connor will reportedly take over as writer and director of Suicide Squad 2.

O'Connor, who is still developing a sequel to his Ben Affleck-starring action movie at Warner Bros., is in talks to direct the follow-up to David Ayer's DC Comics adaptation, which Warner hopes to get in front of cameras in 2018, per Variety.

Suicide Squad grossed nearly $750 millions worldwide and won an unprecedented Oscar (Best Makeup & Hairstyling) at the Academy Awards 2017 for superhero movie genre.

Hard pass.

I'm still mad that of all the superhero movies, and all the movies nominated in that category that year, Suicide Squad got the Oscar, like wtf

Yeah its really upsetting that the super-hero movies have been black balled from the oscars until this happened and it was pretty much like giving a dog scraps.....

Well the plot didn't make sense in the first but that was really the only problem. It was pretty cool and characters were well portrayed.

Just needs a better storyline. Have the superheroes get caught or something and the suicide squad is enlisted to take out the threat and rescue them.

It was very simple. I don't understand why they complicated it.

The sequel might feature Black Adam as the main villain.

Remember when Suicide Squad dealt with low level threats and was more a black ops team and it made sense because they were mostly humans with no powers and the ones that had powers and strange mutations could only take down street level heroes. They went from the mentioned to fighting Black Adam one of the most powerful people in the DC universe and has the powers of 7 gods.

Holy Poach Batman! “Guardians of the Galaxy” director James Gunn is in talks to write “Suicide Squad 2” for DC with an eye to direct, TheWrap has exclusively learned.

Gunn was previously fired from Disney’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise.

The first “Suicide Squad,” which starred Will Smith and Margot Robbie, earned nearly $750 million worldwide on a $175 million budget before promotion and advertising.

More to come…

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/he...edium=referral

Hollywood Reporter confirms he is writing

Gunn has closed a deal to pen the script. At this stage, there is no director deal but talks could proceed depending on the outcome.
Um...

I loved the first Guardians of the Galaxy, and I liked Suicide Squad and GOTG2...

But I don't think Gunn is the right man to improve SS2. His humor brought down GOTG2, and "humor" was already a problem for the first Suicide Squad.

But then again, DC isn't allowed to do dark and gritty movies anymore (just terrible dark and gritty shows on their new subscription), so what do I know?

So Gunn is basically in for sure and it's going to be called, "The Suicide Squad." With a "mostly" all new cast... probably meaning just Harley and Will Smith.

And Amanda Waller. I hope they don't recast Viola Davis, she was great.

I'm hoping for Poison Ivy, Deathstroke, Bane... that'd be fun.

Gah... I love Bane but we need to start with him as a straight up Batman villain before he ends up as an anti-hero in ensembles.

I am for that. Bronze Tiger to play off Deadshot too. He would be better than Katanna as Rick Flagg's right hand. More gray area too. Black Manta or is he in for more devious things?

True, true. But, y'know, most people wouldn't have a problem remembering The Dark Knight Rises. And the main Batman/Bane fight would make a pretty great flashback, similar to the Joker/Harley/Batman flashbacks in the previous movie.

The required buildup isn't much; "I broke the Bat, then the Bat broke me... and left me in Arkham to rot."

And even better, we could then circle back and get a killer Knightfall movie!

Damn, I gotta cut back on the optimism. No way any of that good $hit ever happens.

Y'know what? That'd actually be pretty fvcking cool. I've been chomping at the bit to see Ivy, Freeze, and Riddler all get GOOD cinematic portrayals. That Schumacher sh!t was bonkers.

No way Black Manta happens in SS2; he's absolutely reserved for Aquaman 2, and I predict there won't be much connective tissue between the two franchises.

I'unno, I like Riddler in general, but I'm not sure he's live-action movie material. Kinda silly, no physical threat, etc. etc.

Like, the second TellTale Batman game was able to present him as a credible threat, but... they kind of had to turn him into Jigsaw from the "Saw" movies, which is... NOT the Riddler. I'd argue that if you have to completely "retrofit" a new personality/gimmick onto an existing character just to make them "presentable" for a wider audience... perhaps they weren't the best choice for the story you're telling.

I mean yeah, I'd love for something to one day eclipse what Carrey gave us, but... well, aside from being a wee bit TOO "Jim Carrey", the whole "Goofy, mincing putz" routine is pretty much who that character is. He's always been portrayed fairly consistently.

I like The Riddler. But I could name at least a dozen Batman Rogues who I'd sooner see fight him on the big screen, just because they'd fit easier.

I love The Riddler, my favorite Bat Rogue! Its so easy to get him wrong though. I dont see him as shown in Wsr of Jokes and Riddles yet no need to hyperactive in a red wig and light up onesy (looking at you Jim Carey!). The Riddler is also not a serial killer, but a mastermind. Love the Hush angle and even him as a detectuve out for $. I also prefer Eddie locked up in Blackgate because he Penguin, and Catwoman are not insane, or at least should not be presented as such. While I want to see a new theatricial appearance there are still a few Bat Rogues yet to be portrayed on screen. I atill would like to see Mad Hatter, Man-Bat, and Clayface. There is also Hugo Strange and Hush. Firefly and Killer Moth can carry out another rogues orders. Birds of Prey will be worth seeing for the appearances of Black Mask and Mr. Zsasz.

Any particular reason? I've honestly never heard that one before. Just curious.

Really? I don't go around asking everyone who their favorite DC Comics or Batman Villain is, but The Riddler is mine in both categories and I know I am not alone. There is a old-time poster here HeavyMetalCareBear that is also big on The Riddler. Anyway, I like the color scheme, his sanity with compulsion which makes him strive to be intellectually superior giving Batman a different kind of threat. He is fun as well as gives the possibility for mysteries. Both aspects I like in Batman stories that can be overlooked.
