This looks fun. I would love to play this. But unfortunately, I don't have any new video game systems.

Register for a Steam account? (no cost for that)

Ha! So true! Such a fun game CnD2.

I was interested to know this myself.

Just checked the developers website, it only says Steam and Nintendo Switch on there.

Shared in the official TributeGames Discord today:

Quote:
Not much I can report this time other than we've just past arguably our most important Shredder's Revenge milestone here at Tribute!

Let's do a quick review of what was revealed in the most recent trailer for April O'Neil:
- New playable character (of course, April)
- New level environments
- New boss: The Rat King
Animated gif (click to view):

Quote:
The Rat King had only a few seconds of screen time and he was definitely not at his best being beat-up by April and Raph... Here he is, calling up the rats with his flute!
Animated gif (click to view):

Quote:
And let's not forget April's kick-shell animation: the mic drop! I've seen some talks that this would be one of her attacks but I'm happy to clarify: the mic drop is her "level complete" animation. Feel free to star this GIF for future use in any Discord server. Cause I'll be using it for sure.

The Switch is already almost 5 years old. And PC is about 50 years old now.

Haha, first time I've ever heard anybody liken the PC like a half-century-old console. I guess it's... not... untrue?

Actually is hard to believe that the Switch is nearly the point where most companies decide to move onto the next-gen hardware. I figured the Switch OLED would have been that "half-step" if not for global chip/shipping shortages, but I suppose the new OLED dock might end up serving as that function in the next couple of years.

I know I've been playing PC games since at least the late 80s. And in theory not long after that, as soon as ATX-style computer cases came out... you could be swapping in new "guts" every few years and be using the "same computer" as then.

It'd be like if Nintendo kept releasing an "Upgrade Kit" for the original NES every couple of years.

Well, SEGA certainly tried their best to do that with the Genesis. God bless 'em. I confess I couldn't resist the 32X on account of Knuckles Chaotix, poor little thing.

And Nintendo did introduce the Famicom Disk Drive system in Japan when cartridge production got too expensive due to shortages (or so I understand), and it helped to have the added RAM of the expansion unit. Eventually, they just started improving the game carts making the Disk Drive enhancer unnecessary.

Most of those cartridge-based console had built-in expansion slots that were never used, so who knows?

They did it for NES, but in Japan only and it lead to rampant piracy and was plagued with technical problems.

They've tried to do it for SNES and its production was an utter disaster and led to creation of Sony PlayStation. And due to the failure of Sega CD and Sega 32X Nintendo lost interest in making any expansions for the SNES.

And they've tried it again with N64, which led to DD, which took so long to develop and was released so late, that it had only 6 games (3 of them Mario Paint expansions, I think) and gathered 0 interest from anyone.

Aside from that, developing new consoles takes more time and money nowadays, so I won't be surprised, if this new generation will last longer. I am personally OK with that.

That and we're starting to plateau. Look at the difference between the PS1 and the PS2 or even the PS2 and the PS3... compared to between the PS4 and the PS5 or the X-Box One and the X-Box Series X. There barely is any.

Yeah, I don't think I'd be able to tell most screencaps or motion video apart between those system's games. Seems like it all comes down to the minute specs these days: "can this game hold a consistent ---fps while outputting at x resolution?"

I remember thinking in high school when the Dreamcast and PS2 were all the rage... "how realistic will the next generation of games look? And at what point will I lose my ability to notice a difference in advancements?"

I think, at this point companies will just settle for a smaller upgrades throughout decade, reserving major upgrades for special occasions only.

The problem, of course, is that selling PS5XXLS to replace old PS5 would be harder than, say convincing people to replace their old iPhones (even though the price would be about the same), since people largely consider consoles as a permanent fixture in the house, unlike phones, which are meant to be replaced every few years (for some people).

Details are sparse but DotEmu's Cyrille Imbert confirmed in a recent interview to Game Reactor that Shredder's Revenge will have more "surprises" regarding playable characters beyond the four turtles (and now April).

Quote:
We really want to give as much content as we can. . . .
We want to add variety to the game. . . .
Those characters they look so alive and they are so faithful to the '87 series. . . .
If you want to have a character that is special . . . the gameplay takes time, so we can't make dozens of characters. . . .
but we will do as much as we can for the launch. . . . there are still some surprises left.
(The TMNT discussion begins around the 11-minute mark of the video.)

My main concern is gameplay.
Whether the final game has 2 or 20 playable characters is irrelevant, if it plays like a boring cookie-cutter beat'em up from the past. My hope is that they have people who know what they are doing with a gameplay, because, otherwise it looks like a closest thing to my dream TMNT game.

Gameplay looks fine from the videos so far, basically plays as you would expect. For characters it's obvious Splinter and Casey will be playable too, but I wonder if we'll get any more than that. Also hopefully they don't go the DLC route like the did with Streets of Rage 4 and make you pay for some extra characters.

On video anything can look fun.
Even Double Dragon Neon can look fun in video.

Oh, hush, it's a solid game with a flawed progression system.
