I think, in Cubed's eyes, every woman is a gross creature compared to his waifu Melissa.

The weird thing is I've seen cosplays of the Frozen characters just by normal people that seem far better than these real life professional actors hired to play them.

Maybe they hired them based on their ability to act and interact with children rather than whether they raised the boners of Internet shut-ins.

I imagine most of those female cosplayers don't do it for internet fans though. In fact I never understood the point of cosplay in general, but since so many people do it for conventions there's probably some reason for it.

That's just one of many things you don't understand, dear boy.

I'm sure this would be far less of an issue if Disney understood that all women don't have the same face.

Rapunzel, the Frozen sisters and Honey Lemon, sure...but don't go saying Disney makes ALL of their female characters with the same face.

That seems to be a problem in general...

... and the kid from the Black Cauldron is just a blond Mowgli.

Oh not traditionally, just their CG movies.
They've all got the same rounded jawline and same snub nose.

Even the head of animation thinks that drawing female characters is harder.

Quote:
“Historically speaking, animating female characters are really, really difficult, because they have to go through these range of emotions, but you have to keep them pretty and they’re very sensitive to — you can get them off a model very quickly," he said. - Lino DiSalvo's
Disney and Pixar's female characters all have the same face.

Gotta keep'em pretty.

Oh I see - there is definitely a type isn’t there.

I see what he’s saying about going off model, but I would assume that it’s just as hard to keep a man on model if you are going for a naturalistic style. It doesn’t really apply to CGI though, so as far as I can see there isn’t a technical excuse. Giving a heroin an aquiline nose for example, should be just as easy to animate as a snrub.

Even if they are hell bent on prettiness, there are pretty women everywhere who have huge noses, square jaws and gaps in their teeth. Disney is weird though; they have a house style and they are pretty in love with it. Stuff like Herculeses and Lilo & Stitch apparently caused a lot of internal conflict.

Of course they have to be attractive, that's literally the whole point.

Yeah but in what way? A character can be appealing without being beautiful can't they? And they can be beautiful without having a tiny nose right?

The "whole point" is that they remind kids of whatever Disney character they're playing.

You're hopeless, 'Cubed.

For me an appealing female character has to be at least cute but doesn't have to be beautiful. This is only for younger characters of course because I can think of some awesome old lady characters but they few and far between.

If you can't draw female characters as well as your male characters, you're bad at your art.

Just like if you can't write female characters as well as your male characters, you're crap as a writer.

I don't know that I would go so far as to say "crap." Just extremely limited and in need of further developing your craft.

Don't be content at writing only characters who mirror your own person (e.g. the white male default)... that's a starting point, you're supposed to move on and develop the skills to write outside your own personal identity.

Well, yeah. I've just never understood the whole Lego movie or Lego videogame thing.

You wanna play with Legos, play with Legos. You wanna play a videogame, play a videogame.

I know, I know... my crotchety old man is showing.
