Was Brenda from "Adventures in Babysitting" the inspiration for Irma?
If you don't know, it's from the classic 80's Disney movie which came out in 1987. Irma debuted in the OT in 1988 in the following year: Here's some Brenda on youtube for other scenes: This is also the movie that calls Thor a "homo" of the Avengers, and this was before Disney owned Marvel, and now they have a movie that makes fun of its own characters. |

The Irma look was quite common in the 80s so I don't think so but we'll never know I guess.

Irma Langstein could have been brought about by Brenda's (Penelope Ann Miller) performance. However, I also believe that a certain cartoon character from another series, also served as inspiration for Irma for OT TMNT.
Jeanette Miller.

I don't get it, was that somewhat nerdy look with the big glasses and hair tied back really that common?
I mean these glasses....yikes. This was fashionable in the 80's? |

I never made the comparison, but now that you mention it, Brenda could've been.

Big ugly glasses are just what people wore back in the 80's. Asides from that, they're just both supposed to be dorky girls. As has already been mentioned, Jeanette from Alvin & the Chipmunks had the same type of look as well.

Man, now I know where Katy Perry's "Friday night" music video inspiration came from. She looks just like these 80's girls with the big glasses.

I think I also had a similar pair of big glasses as a kid.

Lol, I never thought about that before! I know Jeanette from Chipettes has virtually the same look, but I never thought about Brenda! Good eye!
