Godzilla Anime

So apparantly a Godzilla Anime is coming to Japanese theatres and Netflix worldwide this year. Described as "an epic re-imagining of the Godzilla world of the future." More will be revealed next week at an Anime expo in Tokyo.

The plot of the Gojira Anime has been released...

"On Earth, kaijuu suddenly appear, and the "ultimate being" of Godzilla rises to exterminate them. After half a century of war between Godzilla and the kaijuu, humanity devises a plan to escape the planet. In 2048, a group of humans chosen by AI board a spaceship called Aratram to travel 11.9 light years to immigrate to a new planet, Tau Ceti e, which rotates around the star Tau Ceti in the constellation Cetus. After traveling for 20 years, the ship barely makes it to the new planet, only to find that it can't support human life.

The protagonist is Haleo, who saw Godzilla kill his parents before his eyes when he was four years old. During the 20-year voyage, he has thought only of going back to Earth and killing Godzilla to avenge his parents. He joins a team that will conduct a dangerous trip through hyperspace to return to Earth. However, when they arrive, they find that 20,000 years have passed on Earth, and the world they once knew has completely changed."

I like the plot, I'm optimistic. The artwork also looks amazing. I kind of wish it were a series and not a movie.

lol yeah it is. When I saw this headline on CBR.com I thought "oh okay cool, Godzilla anime, it's probably just a take on a classic Godzilla story" and then I read that plot summary shouldn't have expected anything that wasn't balls-to-the-wall insane

I like the time period stuff but I don't like the main character. I do not like it when the main character is out for revenge, especially against a animal or force of nature, wich Godzilla is both of those.

"The last summer of the 20th Century. That day, the human beings learn that they are not the only ruler of the planet Earth.

The appearance of the giant living creatures “Kaiju’s” and the ultimate existence that destroys all monsters: Godzilla. Through the battle against kaiju’s that lasted for half a century, human beings have experienced continuous defeat, and finally plan to escape from the Earth. And in 2048, only those who were selected by the A.I. managed under the central government boarded the inter-sidereal emigrant spaceship “Aratrum” to head for “Tau Cetus e”, the planet beyond the distance of 11.9 light-year. However, the environmental condition differences between that of the Earth and Tau e, which they finally arrived after 20 years were far beyond the predicted numbers, and was not an environment considered to be habitable by human beings.

The young man on the emigrant ship: Haruo, who saw his parents killed by Godzilla in front of his eyes when he was 4 years old, had only one thing in his mind for 20 years: to return to the Earth and defeat Godzilla. Shut out from the possibility of emigration, as the living environment in the ship deteriorates, the group of “Earth Returnists” led by Haruo became the majority, and determines to head back to Earth through a dangerous long-distance hyperspace navigation. However, the Earth they have returned has already passed the time of 20,000 years, and has become an unknown world with the ecosystem reigned by Godzilla.

At the end, will human beings win back the Earth? And what will Haruo see beyond his fate?"

I don't now how I feel about the fat strong Godzilla redesign, I don't really like it but then again I hated Shin Godzilla in the first images and now it's one of my favorite designs.

That's so dumb. Why not just make a new, botanical kaiju?

This is why I don't understand anime sometimes, they make so many weird decisions like this. I really just wanted a classic Godzilla anime, classic stories with Godzilla fighting against and alongside other monsters and the like, not this weird 20 billion years in the future story. Plus its CGI? Hard pass *sigh*
